Have been thinking of getting a dual exhaust ever since the single tail pipe mod last month:
IMAG0165.jpg
I even photoshopped the photo with the intended mod (regretted this move as I later found out it equals to self-racuning), and it looked nice...
IMAG0172.jpg
Since the original bumper was designed to accommodate one tail pipe on the left, any exhaust mod on the right would involve bumper trimming and cutting. Was a bit sceptical initially, as the underside of the rear bumper is fully shrouded with black plastics. Since it's a hatch, wasn't sure if the extra pipings for the right can be accommodated in such tight spaces. Plus, there wasn't any 1er on the road that I've seen with dual-exhaust setup. But yesterday cannot tahan already, since not working and had nothing to do, I went to an exhaust shop in Bandar Sunway and got it done! Was offered TIG welding, which produces nice and original looking piping joints. But TIG takes 2-3 days. MIG can be done in a few hours time. Since I can't live without my ride, I opted for MIG welding. So here goes:

Bumper on the right side was measured and marked with black paint. To be trimmed to make way for the right tail pipe.

Trimmed. Plastic covers underneath removed. Original muffler cut off.Custom-made Y-piping. From here, the gaseous waste is channelled into two pipings.

Negotiating in the left box.

Left side done, now onto the right side:

Almost done. Have fun tracing the direction of exhaust flow from the Y-piping:http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0236.jpgFinalising, closing all spots.http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0239.jpgPlastic covers re-installed back, holes cut to accomodate the new right exhaust piping:http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0241.jpghttp://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0240.jpgThey too, found the new mod sexy. LOL! Upskirt pic snapping frenzy:http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0243.jpghttp://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/IMAG0223.jpgOriginal 120i muffler for safekeep, just in case something goes bonker. Would probably make way to the WTS section :)Next upgrade would be with these items:http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/30569.jpghttp://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/kangkai82/20137.jpg

wah better not, self racun-ing is very the potent one leh. haha. but i bet it'd be damn nice on an E46 M-sport :) try photoshop quad pipes, each the same diameter like the one on mine!

can tell it's EVERCO at the corner lot behind esso...

keen eyes... spot on, Everco it is! the word EVERCO is actually in one of the photos.

jarance;483488 said:
OH BTW, just notice there was no heat shield for the right muffler..

yup, i asked the Everco fella regarding that due to the close proximity of the right box to the battery housing. he said it wouldn't be too hot and is completely safe. not taking any chances, am looking for heat shield for that area. any help on where to get one?

vERY very brave on doing that..!!
Look very nice... but maybe noisy rite?

yeah, considering the price of a brand new rear bumper i'm cutting and boring a hole into! LOL! otherwise, i still have the ori muffler with me and if thing goes wrong can always revert back.

maybe it's time for some update:

am loving the mod so far. the objectives of this mod was more on external aesthetics and ICE (in-car entertainment), without performance gains in thought. am glad that the objectives were achieved. forummers and friends alike that have seen the mod in person gave their approvals.
sound wise, it is a low bass throaty rumble - it's like having Chad Kroeger humming to me at the rear seat. not overly intrusive, unlike the Wiralutions & WajaRX's blaring on our roads. It augmented the exhaust note like whoaarrgghh... to a whole new level. Cruising at 120kph is a humming note, totally liking it! Puberty's so over for the babybimmer! surprisingly, the rumbling is more prominent at lower rpm range; floor the pedal and the engine scream downs the exhaust note. so u dig my drift.

went back to everco today to readjust the position - found the left tailpipe slightly lower compared to the right. and got another bracket for the right muffler as it wobbles more compared to the left. was charged RM25 for the bracket, wt*?!

FC wise, obd is still showing 9km/L, so fingers crossed.

RAM air intake mod nxt! anyone with any lobang???

hmmm, gtg floor it again!

finished ur first tank?

half tank does 280+km, still at 9.0km/l. I'd say it doesn't change much of the fc bro.
it's about time, quad pipes? :top:

reset the average FC and check again.

It is more accurate this way.

That's a very clean and neat mod. Looks very much better with twin pipes. Quad may be overdoing it, might look a bit out of place like the M badge you have on the back. I would second a heat shield there, pipes get real hot.

will do! quarter tank left, FC unchanged with dual pipe??! :top:

If the diameter is smaller, quad pipes wouldn't be too out of place...
19.jpg

... of course in tandem with the right rear bumper and the right beast under the hood :)
do agree the M badge should go, but having paid RM50 for it, might just let it stay for a while, heheh. am looking for the heat shield, any help?
