Funny thing with the e46 is that sometimes got sound, sometimes no sound. Sometimes squeeking, sometimes very quiet. Maybe sometimes my ear doesn't hear properly, sometimes hearing excellent. Anyway, found two sources of noise recently. (1) seat belt fastener - beside centre console. Common problem I hear. When go over bump, 'click' a bit - don't know how to solve this yet. Any ideas? (2) Upholstery clip - behind the door upholstery - when lose, will rattle over bumps. Have to change the clips if the door upholstery has been removed a few times to change speakers, or service windows. Even AB will damage clips when repairing windows / wing mirror, and they don't sit nicely in the socket, so will crackle and rattle when jolted. Liew.
