E46 330ci vs Golf GTi WALD

After i got blown miles away by a golf gti while i was driving my N42 318i last year, i have always wanted to know whether the might of the 330i can give the golf gti a good run.... Today, our path crossed again - but this time i am in a 330i. From a distance behind me came a black beauty Golf GTi. We were at the brickfields traffic lights - He was two cars behind me. The light turned green and i stuck to the middle lane on 2nd gear and waited for him to pass me from behind. His engine screamed from behind and as soon he was about to pass me on the right, i floored the pedal. Instantly i was behind his tail. I shifted to 3 and floored - before hitting max rev, i had to ease the gas because i think his car lacked juice. Sporadic burst of black fumes came out from his exhaust pipe when he floors signalling he was running rich on petrol.. A corner came and i still stuck with him constantly easing of the pedal... I slowed down, gave him 3 car length and began the chase again..soon enough, again i was behind him.... I eased of and allowed him to continue wherever he was heading to.. Indeed revenge is sweet . . . . .The might of the 330 shines.!!
 
Nice! you said shift to 2nd and then to 3rd you driving a manual or steptronic?

330i kick a**!
 
stock GTi 197bhp, 330i 231bhp... that helps... not too sure about the torque difference though...

He was shifting gears, frantically perhaps :)

231hp/300nm @ 1600kg - e46 330ci



200hp/280nm @ 1350kg - Mrk V golf gti

Mind you loads of golf in kl remapped so pushing higher than stock figures and with the golf with their DSG should be more perky than the heavier auto(?) 330ci unless manual or smg.

I was on steptronic mode. The roar of the 330 engine is extremly sweet and it was quite effortless..

The red golf gti which blew me miles away last year had his chip remapped and churning about 250bhp - but then i was in my puny N42 - and he turned out to be one of my friend's friend...
 
I think the black golf gti chip was not remapped because i had to ease my throttle most of the time. Also i realise the golf gti was dancing slightly into corners....

just for discussions sake, if i'm not mistaken, there is no such thing as a golf gti Wald in the whole world but in malaysia right?

anyone has any clearer picture on this?

the Golf GTi will push close to 280bhp with a remap,CAI and a decat exhaust system.mind you,its a FWD..so might get tricky when the road gets twisty.but its a mighty fast car on the highway..proven on one encounter i had in my scooby.
 
power to weight shud be similar.. furthermore, the gti is 6 speed.. either manual (i doubt so) or dsg shud be way lighter and faster than the 330 slush box.. hence, good kill bro.. :D

supergrippen.. u mean 280hp can be achieved without BT kit? oettinger aa?

hi adam..yup,a friend at work has one.i think his is stage 3 or sumthin' with CAI,ECU remap and a full Milltek exhaust system.he showed me the litt' on the work he's done and it quotes 280bhp at the crank.that's probably the max that the smallish turbo can give so better watch that EGT...but no dyno figure yet,car is crazy quick though,on 19"s summore.

with a BT kit,i think 320bhp is very much possible.but the cost involved will rise exponentially of course.

i'll have to check with him dulu..semua busy nowadays.at the moment he's only got an Apex'i boost gauge.

i mentioned EGT cuz if u're pushing the turbo to the max,u'd better monitor the EGT closely or u'll have a dead turbo very very soon if u push it too much.an oil cooler wud be a good idea as well plus silicone radiator hoses.

apsal?? interested nak angkat ABT Golf GTi ke?? hehehe...
