my gearbox cant reverse anymore,only can move forward.

now had shop at amanpuri kepong offer rm5k.is it resonable?

yes,with installation fees.he said mayb rm4000 to rm5000 max depands inside which part can b reuse. how to get the part numbers?i m newbies

u mean recon the gearbox take 5k???? U must find those good in recon of gb...

Try search the forum..... there are ppl get good recon service and some bad recon service..... choose carefully

My colleague E46 had this problem before. Reverse gear not enggage. Brought to Mscope Batu Caves. It's the reverse solenoid switch and valve body service only cost 2.5k and problem solved. If change the whole gb will cost nearly 7-8k.

i have a gearbox specialist, he definitely can do this. You can give him a call for quotation. His name is ah mun, autotrans 0196643643. U might need to bring ur car for him to check for accurate quotation. Don't worry quotation wont charge you single cents. And he is opening on sunday.

Happened to my e46 too sometime back.... Its not gearbox kong.... Just have to change the reverse solenoid switch.... Does not cost much.... The switch cost about rm 250... Labour is extra.... Go to my mechanic .... He is the best BMW expert on earth... He done so much for me and my friends.... Cheap and reliable.... Does not cheat.... He is Albert Fang, phone number is 0122017792...... hi guys, notice this thread is a bit fresher in terms of the 2011 date.

I myself is having a problem with my sister E46, facelift version. engine is using the "valvetronic" and not the vanos system. If i am not mistaken. The car has been hibernating for quite some time. And lately driving it back and find that there is some major problems with it's gearbox. I have sent it to PKL motorsports at Kuchai Lama. Gearbox recon was qoute for rm8k, but plus and minor with other stuff changed.. bill of repair now is reaching close to 30k.. 0_o wanted to pitam soon if continue service like this.

I am wondering after i read the above replies, but i don't think i have options to go other foreman place now because the gearbox warranty is still under this shop for 1 year time being. So therefore, i am hoping that i can understand more on this blardy gearbox. Here is the few problems it existed so far.

1. First few round of the gearbox with "I" icon appear, the car straight die and have to restart back. Sent back, everything goes smooth. Asked the foreman, he said he changed the Air mass filter?

You are saying that despite changing to a re-cond gearbox for RM8k, you are still having gearbox problem, am I right? Ontop of this gearbox, you have also spent another RM22k for other repairs. If I were you, I will demand an explanation from the workshop who did your repairs. Don't put the blame on the car for but rather the naive owner.

well, the 22k was spend on bushing, and absorber, wheel, tyre... because it was too wrecked.. so i blame that to my sister..

and due to the car can't be sold.. becoz of some "feeling" with the car... so i have no options but to recover it. Let not talk about the 30k issue. but instead, is this valvetronic gearbox or engine really THAT much of problems? I been hinted about double vanos engine realibility and less electronical issue. So that is why now.. i wanted to dig further into this gearbox issue first.

Googled some info about 2 solenoid thing, ini benda the foreman also told me about earlier. But since i am a dumb dumb on bimmer part. So therefore i just believe on his work. And best part is, the gearbox isn't being fixed at PKL workshop, but instead Ah Lai (the foreman boss) told me that he took it to batu caves some famous gearbox specialist (aka his Sifu) there to change it.

Actually this is the 3rd time this icon appear. That why i am sort of fedup also.. although i can still drive it using manual. But it just sort of making me lose faith on this bimmer gearbox and engine.. Therefore, can someones throw me some url or bible.. about this gearbox? is it really that heart breaking stuff?
