I M recently considering a 1997 e39 528i CBU with the following specs--electrical tilt, multi buttons steering--4 air bags--moon roof--build-in phone--steptronic 5 speed--1 owner--electrical memory leather seat--traction control--motorized rear blind--v-cool double layer glass--cd changer--face-lift angel, rear light--BMW 16" sport rims--130k km--all service records at a BMW specialist from new since 1997--all original conditions, no accident (confirmed by the speacialist and my mechanic)the owner is asking RM 145k and seem quite unlikely to reduced the price.I have been tested 7--8 same cars, this is by far the best condition.what do u guys think, really need the advice fast. Thanks...........

RM145k for a 8 years old car is a bit on the high side. Mileage is normal only but since it has car phone and sun roof, i assume it is a CBU model.

The asking price of a 96/97 CBU unit should be around 125-135K. Dealer is about 15AK lower.

hi there! I suggest looking at my car first before you decide. My car is a lot newer and price is only slightly higher.. Refer to the classified section on "car for sale". Mine is "For Sale: 523i 2000". Thanks.

sorry, can't take yours.
I m looking at only 528 with silver or black color. thanks.....

my n'bour just bought a 1997 e39 528i CBU with only 88k kms for RM130K! Good condition. Dark Green exterior with beige leather.

ditto what saat wrote : '97 model shud be ~RM125 only. Why not Juggernauts? Color can be changed with little problem.

ur huh, looks like juggernaut is quite specific... 2.8L and only either silver or black...

why don't you pm wirelessjunkie... he has one for sale and has put it up in another thread.

IMHO (and I don't claim to know these things), the price should be below RM130K

Although I would pay a premium for the single owner and service records...

owner agreed to let go at RM135k. In fact, checked the records, most major wear & tear parts has been changed and is maintained regulary.
Test drove the car really gave me the confidence to have it.

Since I have test drove many of this model, i found out that most mileage of the odometer has been tempted, espeacilly cars from the dealers.
I certainlly would not buy this model without the proof of serviced records. From my experince, please avoid those pre-register recond cars at all cost.

If you are comfortable with the car, verified it's complete service records, and know the seller well, I believe 135K is an ok price. just consider it as paying a premium of say 10-15k. If you get a lemon E39, your first repair will easily cost you 6-10k! I am also on the lookout for an e39 but still waiting for it's price to drop below 100k which may happen in the next two years and that's fine with me. ;)

I have seen many buyers of used cars that are more than 5 years old, spending 5-10K on maintenance in the first year.

I met a fren who got a good deal on a beautiful looking 2002 E46 and has just pumped 5K into the car for repairs. So beware check the maintenance history for any signs of persistent problems or major repairs.

Paying a premium of 10K over market for a car in very good condition will cut down on the 1st year maintenance cost. If in doubt, use a mechanic to check it out. After all, 135K is not chiken feed.

I bought the car from a loaded man, it has been maintained by his driver.

I has never come across such a well maintaied 1997 528i until now, moreover, the whole car is in the original conditions without any modification except the angels lights.

The ex-owner told me that he paid about rm380K for the car in march 1997 He even mentioned that this was the highest specs model in the europe. In fact, the car is running so smooth and quite that I can even feel the differences between other same model (tested 7-8 528i in 2 months).

To be honest, I have almost given up hope to look for a 1997 e39 after testing so many of this model. I just do not have the confidence to put my money on those cars. And fortunetely, I was glad that I did not end up with a 2.4 honda accord....... almost....so close.........

i think spending a couple of thousands on maintenance of e39 is normal. recently, i went for normal oil service and got my car checked thoroughly. one of the diagnostic lights came up, so i decided to check everything. one faulty oxygen sensor cost me 1k, another camshaft sensor cost me 400, engine mounts cost me another few hundreds, plus a few small things here and there, total bill came up to 3k. just like that.. so, i figured, i should expect to spend this much when servicing my car. it's quite normal wear and tear thing for cars a few years old.. especially true now with euro being so high compared to ringgit/us dollar..

Looking thru your first post, the specifications are similar to my 2001 E39. (bar 2.5 double vanos and adaptive gearbox). You can junk the phone.

I doubt if you're going to get those on a '97 CKD.

My '97 528i from AB is exactly same spec as what he listed except the phone and moonroof. For me 130k+ is a very reasonable price. Those sub 130k e39 cars out there selling in star / motor trader are mostly low spec unit that without M steering, low OBC (six button), etc.

I have my car 3 days ago and have been enjoying driving it around town and highway.......

One of my client after test driving of my car have in fact offer me RM5k above the price I bought.... and of course I politely have rejected him.

I wonder with the extra 5k, I do not think I can get another car with this excellent cond.

btw, I have paid 133k for the car
