Anyone has any idea if the M5 Speedometer can be installed into the inline-6 variants of the E39?Looks like an interesting aesthetic mod...

i think bro seewai had done the install.

also the m5 cluster has two buttons so i dont think it will fit to replace the one button cluster.

On normal e39, not so easy. There was somebody who was doing a writeup on a forum abroad on how to install and make it work properly but i think he stopped posting before the thing is finished, or maybe he didnt finish it up until today.

The problem is with the oil temperature signal, in our car normally there wont be an oil temp reading, only coolant temp. The M5 cluster uses the oil temp signal for the lights around the tacho RPM meter, and also on the gauge which replaces our consumption gauge below the rpm. Without the oil temp reading both of this would be non functional.

Im the one who installed the M5 cluster to Seewai's car, for some funny reason his car got an oil temp reading so it just works.

Bro huskar, you can go from low cluster (1 botton) to high cluster (two buttons) if you are so inclined, some rewiring required. there are guides on the net to do this.

hhhmmm.... my car is running the 2 button version. Not sure whether mine has an oil temp though.
Any idea if Seewai's car is a local or grey import?

Seewai's car has gone through 2 conversions. somewhere along the line the oil temp was activated/coded/added, but normally our car don't have this. i was quite astonished to saw that, but another forummer which had done a manual conversion also had a oil temp. don't know how to enable it on other cars though. needs further research.

Hhhhhmmmm.... very interesting. Wonder whether it'll work with aftermarket oil temp sensors but i highly doubt it would.

I've this experienced last week. I just sold new original Alpina B10 clustermeter to one of my friend that using E38. After install all light up and function properly except gear indicator light and all german language appears at cluster and radio unit. Then, when start to drive it the kmh reading is going crazy, reach 180kmh at 110kmh real speed..Need some advise wheather it can be recalibrate and where is the best place to do it.

you need to reprogram or recalibrate the cluster (ike) to follow the original specs of the car which is kept in the ews. if u have bmw scanner 1.4 then it is easy. there are plenty of guidelines on the internet on how to perform it. i replaced mine with a cluster which originally from a manual car.

ok...thanks for the knowledge sharing..now i got an idea and will try out that solution..

No lah. i don't think it will work bro..u should sell it to me and i'll appreciate it more...heheh. if he's give up, do pm me ya..thx alot

Tried recoding the cluster above, it is coded and have the correct info of the car in it now.

But unfortunately I cannot get into 'Recoding' to set the other settings, and currently it still thinks its in a manual car (no gear indicator). Also the speed isnt correctly showing, 75kmh real speed is showing 100kmh on the speedo dial.

When i accessed the obd hidden function, the correct speed is showing when compared to GPS speed.

No gear indicator not an issue for mine.
Speed, could it be calibrated to rim size?

u're referring to the alpina cluster, arent u? i wonder why the shift indicator cannot be recoded. it should be straight forward if using bmw scanner 1.4 to recode, well it was for me before.

i dont think the cluster is able to calibrate itself to match different wheel size. furthermore 25% difference is just too much to be true.

The problem is i cannot get into 'Recoding' at all. Clicking into it just says the redlcoding data isnt available.

I think the problem with the speed is, its showing the speed according to normal cluster gauge where top speed is 250kmh. This Alpina cluster is showing 320kmh at the normal 250kmh needle location.

This is what it says when i click recoding (sorry bad photo, my lens was dirty)

about the speed issue, i agree the scales are different between the two and i still dont think that's the actual reason. i presume the m5 cluster also has different scale, but this kind of problem does not surface. or does it?

oic. maybe the alpina cluster electronics somewhat different from others.
maybe it snapped too many dirty photos, that's why the lense is so. lol

I think if i can get into the coding data, it can be corrected. Still looking for answers.
