the heat shield protects ur control unit and ur brake hoses as well....
mine was done in a few minutes.
my 2 cents.

send my car last weekend due to abs and asc indicator is on and wont turn off including speedmeter no function.
mr.yong my mech in Ara damansara call me today and inform the rear left abs sensor need to change luckly not the ecu buat hal...Found out the cost was around rm250++ for the new sensor..also satu kali tukar semua arm ball joint with new bushing, hose for power steering etc..will share the details once collect car tomorrow....estimate around 2.5k...huhuhu BMW..

mine just got failed this morning.. damn... all mentioned warning light appear... this thread really help me. btw, still wait for mr jerman to upload his heat shield pic..

Very good and wise decision. Now get the heat shield and protect it.

This was what I did but it would have been more effective if heat shield materials are used.

The double vanos ASC control unit is prone to faulty than single vanos one.
However I did mine just a precaution.
