E39 Accident

Just to share this incident as a reminder. My fren E39 was totalled. All 4 occupants were lucky to escape wt minor injury. He was speeding in rain & the car skidded at corner, topple few times & ended in moonsoon drain. All the pics explained everything.Drive safely:smokin:

Wow based on the pics you can say it's a miracle that no one suffers from serious injuries or even death ... Thank god every one is ok ...

OMG......Are all the passengers safe? I mean any one suffered from head injuries or cuts? looking at the roof totally collapsed, it must have hit their heads pretty hard...

Shite...i still can't digest these pics....eeeeerieeeee....never never never speed in rain....tires hydroplane, all hell break loose.

looking at the pics, did the front co-driver's airbag deployed?

Very very fortunate to escape only with minor injuries - all 4 of them somemore...they could have even drowned if the drain was swollen with water..

Lucky dudes...seems like it skidded on the long strech (corner)...if thats the case they are double lucky theres no oncoming vehicles...

Thanks for the pics. A real reminder and warning to us all. Although we drive UDMs they are not indestructible. Thanks goodness your friend is around to get his hands on another UDM.

Wow....lucky escape there. Last year my friend was driving from Ipoh to KL on the PLUS highway in a 2003 Merc E240...brought back himself from the UK about a year before that. He just passed Tapah..he said he was only doing 90kmh due to heavy rain..but still the car aquaplanned, skidded and toppled a few times. The car was totalled but luckily insurance company agreed to pay 100% (RM150,000). I guess the scene might look very similar to this. Both him and his mother came out safely without a scratch, but maybe with some whiplash.

2 months back at PLUS after Tapah my cousins Camry 2.4 aquaplaned as well, hit the divider and spun 3 times before halted...no one injured including his newly wed bro and sis in law...he said he was doing only 90since he slowed down due to the rain...i thought coz its a camry/driving behaviour but now i have realised its probably not

Pheewwww..........those guys were lucky...........as I do commute very often to Penang from KL, I have seen many ugly mishaps on the highway during rain. We may take for granted that we are driving these UDMs but when the road is wet/cold and slippery.........NOT To Speed...........I always keep under the 80kmh mark.

The wider the tyres, the better the lift they produce when rolling over water. My semi worn Yoko A-Drive 185/70R14 can easily cruise at 120kph in heavy down pour but not possible with my 225/45R17 brand new Yoko S-Drive! That much of a difference!!

What tyre model and size the E39 is running on?! and what was the condition?!

Drive slow?! yah, easier said than done. Understand your car's limit is very important. Slow down when the car is getting "nervous"..

Guys,

Looking at the pictures its seems the SRS didn't deploy? Didn't see any air bags in the driver and front passenger side.

That's normal as many e39 owners do not repair their seatmate airbag sensor.

When one of the airbag sensor failure and light on, then no more airbag will deploy in whatever accident involved.

Tyre grip in wet require exactly the opposite of dry. You need more surface contact for dry to improve grip but every square cm of surface contact gives u more lift when your surface is covered with water. The wider and botak tyres in the wet is just recipe for disaster while the same will be so sweet to drive on dry road.

I always throw my car around u-turns in the wet, low speed, to have a feel of what's losing traction feels like. U need to be familiar with the feel so to detect it and correct it before its too late. Secondary oversteer is more deadly!
