To all Sifus, Master, Grand Master, Jedi and Obi wan Kenobi. :D just want to know betweenE36 328 and 325 what's the different?which one is good for me as a beginner?which is ultimate and reliable.hope want to owning a 328 but roadtax bit expensive la,325 not ultimate as 328 (i think)about maintenance which one is low.hope you guys can help. Thanks

Mainly, roadtax, torque (at low rpm).

Top speed about the same.

OBD I and OBD II (if I'm not mistaken.)

ASC.

Analog and digital aircond.

Engine block, steel, compared to aluminium alloy. One can bore, the other is lighter.

VANOS.

What I can recall so far... am sure there's more.

thanks Lee36328,

one more thing, how about fuel consumption,
and maintenance,
which is hard to maintain, expensive parts, etc between 328 and 325
and what is OBD and ASC is it brake system?

Thanks

maintenance should be about the same for both 6 potters. it's mainly the road tax.. fuel consumption wise, both suffer for city start stop traffic...

328 more maintenance....cos more plastic parts..

opps.. 328i has 2 O2 sensors..ews.. the 325i pre dec95 does not have the ews.

okay...lets see. hmmm....

here's the technical data on the engine. I think!

For M50B25 Non Vanos

Due to its age( the newest 325 is 12yrs(1995) old now), its going to harder to find one in good condition wherelse the newest 328 should be 8 yrs old(1999).

I believe that the E36 had a facelift in 1997.

Most stock 325i have no leather seats, no CD player, no color cordinated bumper...if still original paint , no center armrest, no digital ac. No ASC.

I guess you get more car with the 328. Dont let roadtax scare you. The repair bills can far exceed roadtax if ur are unlucky.

My advise, set a reasonable budget say RM40-50k. Get the best 328i you can afford and make sure the owner has full service history of the car and set aside RM5k for repairs and u should be ok.

Best of luck.

Oh yeah...the CKD models running on GM gearbox, 328 and 325 looks the same but the internals are different. Manyak problem la...

Glad to have you back....
pss... just got myself a M50 manual gearbox.:D

328 is also much quieter due to the addional butterfly valve on the exhaust muffler. The butterfly valve on one port closes under 2500 rpm and only opens after that. makes the car rather quiet during idling.
328 also has got 35Nm more torque compare to 325 but only 1bhp more than 325.
ASC @ traction control , Auto Climate Digital AC , OBC II (On Board Computer version 2), more cabin lights such as foot rest lights from both driver and passenger, rear reading lights too. rear view mirror also is auto-chrome where it automatically dim to prevent glarring from headlight of vehicle behind you at night.
Later version of 328 got two air bags and ///M body kits + ///M contour rims that is 7.5" front and 8.5" rear. which you can fit 245/40/17 without any problem at the rear.

Other than that, I think everything else is the same.

But if you can live with Manual, Original 1995 special edision 325 manual is good too.

Good luck in your seach for your dream UDM. Remember to insist of Full Service History to be sure and take it to a BMW specialist for a check and also do a compression test as well.
