Dear all ?Just wanna ask wat is the best to upgrade 318 either 325m or Sr20?...in term of budget?performance?maintenance?...Thanks for all bm lovers...

Wow... 2 very different cars. What are you looking for in a car again??

You do know asking here will mean most replies recommending the BM... :D

hahahha..
i know thAT....just wanna get an opinion on engine transform huh...
not the matter on changing car....
thanks bro......

The 3.2 stroke up is equivalent to the US spec M3 rite? Cos i asked a shop about M3 conversion, the entire transplant costs about 15-20K!!! WOW!!! They recommended that i just stroke up my 2.5 now to 3.2 using all M3 stuff. He said performance wise, its almost M3. Cost less than half, including the 6 speed manual gear box. But thats optiona. Can still maintain to use my ZF if i want, but less kick la they said.

Yes it's almost up to spec/power compared to the US M3 3.2. Another cheaper alternative for 2.5 would be to stroke it to 2.8.

It's hard to find the 6 speed manual gear box though. Even if you do it'll cost quite a bomb.

sure guys?..there s many optional rite, last week my frend just bought m3 halfcut..around 23k....3.0...need more cash huh...
wondering to transplant sylvia s15,costly around 10k completely..butttttt...im gonna miss the original one..
confused laa..

First things first...how deep is your wallet?

We can go on all day long about the potential upgrades for your car but it all boils down to how deep your wallet really is.

It gets a little annoying when there's a new forumer every week that comes in here and asks the same old question. I really wish people would take the time to use the forum search function before posting a new thread.

just asking sifu here, maybe a little bit annoying for the oldtimer..but,im really need advice from u all guys, anyway thanks a lot....but my future project is maybe 325..

My advice stick to BMW engine. No enuff money? Wait until you do or do step by step.
325 wt manual engine is enuff to kick some ass if you manage to get. Later can still stroke or supercharge it. Dun forget on safety ie brake & suspension. BMW is about the driving feel & handling. Better to learn on how to handle the car rather than making the car faster.

+1
+2 infact.

The UDM was about the feel, the handling, not the speed. Any car can go fast. So long as the car is light, any car can go fast. That day along the highway i had a KIA picanto overtake me until the bend came. There was no competition.

I really suggest for anyone to think of engine first, think of handling first instead. Go with good suspensions, coilovers, better brakes. Better bushing, etc. Even better tyres make a huge difference. I don't know but my slightly modified m42 is really giving me alot of kick. Either then the fact that along the NSH its quite boring cause top speed is just slightly over 200. But then again i'm being picky i know.

Hey bro is it u shawn?? How's the carbon fibre hood? I know the place but need to order.

From my experience,
Jap engines can provide you with an abounding power. Its much cheaper to mod and its satisfying, in terms of
money = power, but one thing for sure, it will never be as good as driving a stock 192hp manual BMW. =)

Have you thought of building a BMW the same way you build a Jap engine? BMW with a GT40 maybe?

dun have to be power crazy (gila kuasa)... I'm very happy with the E30 with the nippy little M42B18.. and it lasted me 5 years, since I transplated it into the E30, without major engine issues with at least 10 track days in between. Last calculated, I've done 160,000km with this engine...

If it is me, between the 2 choice,
i would go for 325 upgrade.

if i got other choice,
i would go for M44 upgrade.
