thanks hellraiser for your suggestion. however, first things first. would like to verify whether my car has catalytic converter or not? i would assume that my car (e36, 318A, 1996, M43) has. okay, here is the problem. i have been using this AFM (bosch part no. is 0280 202 134), without knob, meant for 318 WITH catalytic converter, for quite some time, until it was faulty. and checking from real oem's website, the BMW part no. tallies (12621734655/134). meaning, the BMW part no. embossed on the AFM is the same as shown on the website. however, from this website, it shows that this model has been discontinued. so, i changed to a used AFM with the same bosch part number, which i bought from Chu Seng Auto. the AFM was fine. lasted me another 6 months. then the shutter jammed, and car engine shut down after exiting the toll. fed up, so, what i did was, i went to BA PJ and bought a new AFM. this AFM looks fishy, cos the box wasn't Bosch box, and looked like it has been opened before. So, when i asked the people there, they claimed that this is the correct one, cos, on the AFM, there is a printed sticker with the BMW part number (1362 7558785). The Bosch part numbers are 0280 202 208 & 0280 202 213. this AFM has a knob, and the socket is not a direct socket. through another converter. i feel this is not the correct AFM, as my car's idling is not stable ever since, and as well as during gear change, the rpm will drop quite a lot, before up again. furthermore, there's a bit of black exhaust smoke, which after a week, my rear bumper near the exhaust is literally black. so, after some checking again from internet, i found out that Bosch part no. 0280 202 213, actually belongs to BMW part number 1362 1734657/213! which means that this AFM is meant for 318 WITHOUT catalytic converter, whereas, all along i have been using AFM for 318 WITH catalytic converter. so now, does any one of you changed to a new AFM recently? pls share info on this issue. from real oem website, it shows BMW part no. 1362 7558785 to be the correct part number, but how do i really verify this? meaning, what is the actual Bosch part number embossed on it? i may be paranoid, but i suspect BA PJ, gave me the wrong AFM by printing the BMW part number and sticking it on the wrong AFM. thks :burnout:
