The vanos (M50TU) engines provide better torque characteristics. As you said the newer the better. M20 engines did not have a plastic cover, M50 has the big black cover. I stand corrected, M50 - 1991 and M50TU - 1993. All in all the e34 are generally very nice cars which ever the model, just make sure you get one in good nick.</blockquote>
