minor repairs

a few dings and rust patch...... also some moulding strips missing. minor stuff

stripped the interior

sorry guys, i did not take pics of the actual stripping because at the time i was by my self lol, so no one was there to help or snap a few. but this is what i have to deal with, this is my major headache :(

so thats all for today guys........keep checking for updates. now its time to go about my daily life of University and so on. if you guys have any info you would like to share with me, ideas etc please feel free to share. but my idea is i want to change to the m20b25 engine and transmission because currently it has the m10b18 and is auto. body wise i am thinking to go the e36 m3 front bumper and also thinking the rear too, i am thinking to go gunmetal paint with some nice varrstoen v1 16X8 rims powder coated in black.

i can see where this is heading.....

wow! a big-bumper E30! been a long time since I saw one. anyhow I wish you all the best in restoring your car. looking at the rust condition, you pretty much have to go through similar amount of bodywork performed on my red E30.

ideas, ideas, ideas

lol, why the facepalm comment? i like the idea of the plastic bumpers. my car is a 85 model, so i cant just take the valance from a earlier model and fit it on. it would require a good amount of cutting and welding of the body to fit. what idea you have. feel free to share

bumper

yup i do, thats y i started following your thread. i really dislike the diving boards, i like the plastic bumpers from the earlier models. where i am i cant put my hands on any thats in good condition. so i am taking it one step at a time. once i get the welding done i'll see how money stands and maybe order back the original bumpers for it. which is going to be alot lol

this bumper seems to look ok, what you guys think. i need feed back

http://dtmfiberwerkz.com/access/mtech-style-front-bumper-p-40.html

For your info, this bumpuer is not from e36. This is a replica that was made based on e30 MTech version 2 bumper. This came on face lift model of e30 that were produced production year 88 and on wards.
Since you car is 85 model, you will need the front valance from a face lift model. Also, even though DTMfiberwerks offers these rare pieces, their fitment is not the best when it comes to replicas. I heard not so good reviews on their products mainly 'cos you need to do lot of fab work to fit their replica products (mainly bumpers).
Head over to r3v and you will find lot of reviews on these guys since some of the US guys use them b4.

Just a suggestion, y not keep your diving board bumpers. You can tuck those ugly diving board bumpers (front and back) and paint them in body color. If you do it correctly you can make them look very much similar to euro bumpers.

facelift bumpers

lol, i know this is not from the e36. but after the comment you made. i decided to check out a few mods and i came across this in google. as it is the kind of look i want for my 85 model. thanks for your suggestion too, much appreciated. when it comes to the bumpers i will deal wit that later on. but as you can see, i have much more serious things to deal with that rotted floor pan lol. i have an account with R3V so i will try and find the facelift valance. quick question tho, since you know much about these bumper mods. once i get the facelift valance, would it have alot of modding to do?. from what i see from the later models with the facelift bumpers, the side panels actually are shaped in such a way to match up with the valance. would it require me to get those kinds of side panels or would you recommend just make the extra cut on the old ones to match it up. hope you understand what i am trying to say. thanks

no worries, we all are here to learn and share.
it is a good thing that you got your priorities right by addressing the rust issues first. as for the bumper swap. 88+ valance is a direct bolt on part, no modification is required to the valance. However, you will need to remove both tow loops on the front of your car. You can use a cutting tool to remove this.

on a side note, drop the "el oh el" exsessive usage (am not trying to be dick)

I saw a few pictures in FB, an e30 with e36 bumper. Dunno how they did it, but it fit.

Looking forward to see the final result of your restoration project :)

thanks buddy for pointing out all of this to me, i hope to keep seeing more comments from you, i must admit when i thought of all the suggestion you made, they are the best ones and they will keep the e30 "original", thats what it is all about.
