Hello all, First of all, excellent site, been doin a lot of research here. Just inherited an E28 (520) and am looking forward to the improvements I can make. Just a few questions though.1) What kind of absorbers would be recommended for this particular model? Could you please also include the average pricing.2) What is the biggest size rims that anybody has ever tried putting on the E28, i was thinking of 17inches. Any comments?3) Where could I get the interior rewrapped? Or could I possibly swop seats with another model Beemer? Thats about it for now, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi bro,
I'm not an expert in E28 although i'm driving one.
but i might be able to answer some of your questions.

1) In terms of absorbers, i heard Bilstein is the best. If i'm not mistaken, Average price is around rm270 (front) & rm265 (rear).

2) There are ppl that used 17"s. Even 18"s can fit in. I used to have 18"s on my E28 but changed it to 17"s. Too heavy. Ideal size for E28 is 16"s.
U can try check the previous thread. There are some comments on pros & cons regarding small vs bigger rims.

3)I'm not sure myself where to rewrap interiors. Never done it before.

Thanks for your help, was thinking of the bilsteins as well, will they lower the car very much? What springs did you use with the bilsteins?

I think 17's would suit me fine, spotted a fine pair of Hamann's the other day, might have a problem with the offset though, have to wait for the car and try.

Does anyone know if i could ultimately swop seat, am looking for leather seats?

JLopez,

Absorbers will not alter the ride height of your car. Only changing springs will do so.

Just a note on using 17s.....the suspension of the e28 was NEVER designed to take the load of 17 inch wheels. 16 is the optimum size for these cars. If you are looking into rims, any rim from the e34, e39 and e38 can fit on the e28. However the centre bore of the e39 and e38 is larger and will require the use of hubcentric rings for them to fit properly on your hubs.

As for your questions on seats, the seats from the e34 and e32 can fit with minor modification to the mounting points. Some of the members have done this successfully. For interior refurbishment, try contacting Ah Kit at Top Cushion at Kampung Melayu Subang. He is very familiar with classic BMWs.

The best is et20 for 15" & 16" rims. Anything between et15 and et25 should fit fine..... some 17" rims comes with et13 offset though.

mine has offset 13 in front with 8.5width and rear 24 with 9.5 width..... front 235/45/17 and rear 255/40/17

if standard suspension will be abit taxing on 17s n 18s... 16 is the best.....

but with H&R and Biltien combo...... stabilizer bar, antirolls... it sure does feel good on 17s....

as fer interior... you can try a few shops in puchong.. check out pussy's e28 beautifully done for only rm1k...MBtec.....he also has leather and other materials...

oh yes aabsorbers are arnd the price of wat DMC quoted... u can try ortojaya at sunway mentari.. they are really cheap but i guess parts comes from kepong... hehehe

some of my friends used thier parts and very happy with it tho! example of price.. rm165 for rear bilstien and rm200 for fronts... dont quote me on price.. as this was the price in NOV...

Thanks a lot guys, the anticipation is really getting to me. Still havent gotten the car . Went out trying to source for an mtech body kit today but they sure are rare! Am contemplating going to SD Auto in Sunway and getting a custom built air dam for the front. Will see. As for the absorbers, will drop by Mentari and check out the prices. What about the springs, Mafia, where could I get the springs that u recommended and what would the price range be?

yes 40 doesnt hit but dun forget my fender is rolled, and offset 24... so if offset 20, 255 wont lepas...

my new machine is skyline blue, alpina seats, ac ekjos, bilstien black, eibachs, mtec2 steering, ori mtec kit, 3.5 manual... so bloody rojak.. malu la... oh yes.. RD rims 17" with 225front and 245 rear!..
