I thought the purpose of launch control is to avoid the tires spinning during take off? By avoiding tyre spin, you get a better take off or start? am I wrong?

Correct. I have no idea why the subject of tyre spinning was brought up lol. I think the only way the tyre can be spun during take off is turning the traction off completely (Press and hold the traction control button for 5 sec). Tried this personally, works pretty well, can do a sharp U Turn by breaking the rear tyre grip.

launch control mode can only be used with dsc off. which is the sport+ mode. hence the wheel spin is there...but not much.. still able to take off with minimum wheel spin as RPM shows at 3000rpm. probably if you hit the pedal harder say 5000rpm then its a diff story...enjoy the ride guys...twin power turbo engines..bloody myvi the other day tried to show off..smoked the hell out of him and he pulled at the back on the next traffic light...hahah

Wow..bmw launch control should be interesting..for a 328i, how many seconds 0-100 kmh faster compared to a normal launch?

Hope the stock gearbox can withstand the extra force during take off...releasing at 3000 rpm is not that high tho so should be safe imho..

Hmm true. I also read that the Launch control feature is locked until your car hit a certain mileage..Last attempt I tried it was less than 1000km. Maybe that is why I couldn't get it to work. Now my car has just clocked 3000km, maybe I will try it soon hehe.

i guess the gearbox will last coz not much of rpm unless u blast it above 5000rpm...but N20B20 engines are happy revving..can go as high as 7000rpm. not sure it will indicate when to shift coz i never tried revving till 7000rpm to change to the next gear during the launch control mode. was just maintaining around 4000-5000rpm. but i guess it can go down a lot more. about the milage lock, not sure about it. probably u need to run the car till 1st or 2nd service. i did it when the car clocked 15000km.

about the time not sure if launch control mode can go even faster..im guessing its the same..never clocked it. haahah...but normally 0-100kmh u get probably under 6secs. 5.9sec or 5.5sec. around there lah...which is fast enough for a 2.0 twin turbo car generating 245hp 350nm(328i only). the new lci will have 255hp and 400nm update. code named n20b48. will wear the badge 330i which replaces the 328i which can go slightly quicker.

Confirmed, 320d M Sport has Launch control.
Just tested on mine. Freaking awesome when the engine building up the RPM and launches but I can definitely feel the strain and stress put on the car's engine and transmission.

Pretty damn easy once you know how it works.
1. Make sure your engine is at optimum working temperature (engine temperature needle pointing right at the middle)
2. Switch to Sport+ mode.
3. Push the gear lever to the left side to activate sport shift mode.
4. step on the brake pedal as hard as possible.
5. Floor the accelerator pedal till you feel the pedal "click" down.
6. You should see "Launch control active" with a flag showing at the instrument cluster LCD panel.

Now you as the RPM build up you will feel your car rear's side "sinking" and plant to the ground before you release the brake pedal to launch the car. Awesome feeling.
I think this feature is available as long as your F30 is on Sport Automatic. Which can be coded but I read that model that comes with Sport AT by default will have better hardwares and parts to withstand the strain and stress causes by the launch control. Can't confirm this though.

Try the tyre shop in yong peng...they sold good rft...i change all 4 for my x1 20D for 3500...continental ccs 5 if not mistaken. ..

With launch control it should be faster by up to 0.5s compared to normal acceleration as the electronics calculates and optimizes the wheel traction to get the best possible launch from stationary...the computer control basically allows for the car to drive semi-smoothly from idle by just the right amount of slip to engagement..on R35s the latest gbox software update LC2 onwards reduces the engine launch to only 3000rpm instead to the earlier LC1 version of 4500rpm..LC1 was the first version of launch control..it was a violent clutch drop, slight wheel spin, and wheel hopping, 1st gear death..however when done a few times in a row, owners managed to kill the GR6 gearboxes..specifically they sheared the teeth off first gear..after a bit of an uproar, the launch control was changed to what is called the LC2 which allowed for 3000 rpm launches and was much less violent than the LC1 launches..

Anyway just sharing some words of advice from the pioneers of launch control modes:

1) Try not to launch it at too high rpms.
2) Avoid repeating the launch several times in a row.
3) Do follow the right instructions officially from bmw on launch controls.
4) Finally, pls check with your local dealer if launch controls are covered by warranty and if the gearbox kaputs due to LCs will they replace it FOC.
