Does N42 engine have vanos?

Sifus,i'm a still a noob about bimmer and wanna ask if N42 got vanos or not coz i read from other forums that it does?if got is it single or double vanos? :hmmmm2:
 
i got mix result when searching in other forum..some say that N42 does have vanos and alot of vids in you tube regarding checking solenoid for vanos in N42. even in BMWCM archive also a forumer told that N42 have it after checking with AB (sorry lost the link). some article in E46fanatic also says that N42 have vanos. i read that valvetronic system was derived from vanos system. As per link below this guy is saying that N42B20 have double vanos apart from valvetronic. i've seen in a couple of article saying the same for N42B20 but because it have valvetronic the behavior is different from 6 potter.all this while i thought that vanos and double vanos is available in 6 pot only. i don't know about N42B18 engine coz my focus was on N42B20. I'm really confused

thats what i thought..but some people says that N42B20 have both vanos and valvetronic. N42B18 only have valvetronic. thats what confused me..even when i search in youtube there are some vids regarding replacing and changing vanos for N42B20. i'm a noob and don't know much..i know for sure that i have valvetronic but don't know about vanos. or is it only available for euro N42B20 spec?. really2 confused.

engine 2000 cc displacement 1995cm3. must be N42B20 right? the other N42B18 is for 1800 cc right? M43 is the 1900 cc right?unless my car registration is wrong then i am sure i have N42B20. M43 you will feel a bit of underpower right? mine 180kmh ++ easily get not even full throttle.my tiptronic manual can go 5 gear oso.. must be 2000 cc la kan sifu?based on manufacturing time my car was born 08/2002 so must be the facelift version right?

car registration can sometime be misleading. The sure way is the VIN number on your car. what is your VIN?

As pointed by beemer, there are many 2000cc car built around yesr 2001.
Have a look at the picture. Which one is your engine?

vin : ET45105. It is N42 engine manufactured 08/2002 as per what i've stated before. but how to know the actual cc?it didn't state my cc

do a scan on your car with a diagnostic tool and all will be revealed.

I don't see any obvious mechanism to alter the camshaft angle in the N42, unlike in the Vanos equipped engines...

Valvetronic alters the intake valve lift and duration. but does nothing to the camshaft timing...

aiyo bro still not that advance yet.i know a lot of sifus here did DIY scanning using GT1 sw and hope to learn about it..maybe when i service i'll ask the mech to printout. for know i am sticking to N42B20 as the car behaviour is leaning towards it than N42B18. from the engine diagram i did not see anything resemble vanos. i will try to to more research. but if sifu got some knowledge in my small engine that can clear my confusion over this matter would be appreciated. haiyo..i never got so much interest in cars before. UDM is really addictive..i don't think can never stop loving UDM no matter how manja it is ( lucky not so manja2 sgt)..

Base on your vin the spec of your engine was :

318i/Ci/ti N42B20 2002–2003 1995cc I4, 16v 143 PS (105 kW; 141 bhp) 148 ft·lbf (201 N·m) 9.3 s
