Once the outer blocks wear out, the steering sharpness and cornering grip will subside with it.  Actually looking at the new thread patterns, the cornering ability may not be as good as the previous PS2. Generally the bigger the outer blocks (and hence the smaller drain channels), the better the cornering grip as it more stable plus bigger contact area.
