The upper window seal is causing the noises. You should not be using wax, silicone or any lubricant products in that area because it causes rubbing after contact with water/rain and dust.

Some say WD40 is safe, others say not recommended.

I use Ambertron to remove the wax, silicone, grease from the upper window seals and the door frame area. It's an alcohol-based electronic parts cleaner and doesn't leave petroleum residue like WD40 does. If there's dust, I just use wet towels.

Can't help you with the dashboard creaks, it comes and goes if you park in the sun. Best is to send to AB or BMW experts so they can investigate.

I got it 5years ago from Ampang Park (one of those parts shop on ground floor). No idea if it's even there still. So your best choice would be the shopping mall at The Curve. There are 2 shops to choose from - Home DIY and General Purpose DIY. I saw Amberclens products in one of them.

Although you don't specifically need Ambertron. There might be new and improved equivalents i.e. 3M as per BMW's recommendation.

But if you can't find the 3M, you should look for "Electronic Cleaning Solvent" or any alcohol-based cleaners that does not contain foam and lubricating elements.

I performed the teflon tape procedure recently and tested it with rainstorms, car wash and a thorough waxing process. No creaks, unlike previous BMWs.

But I also regularly clean the dust off the upper doors' felt-panel. A quick 5min clean every 2 weeks when inflating tires. Not sure if the tape or my cleaning that's working, but I finally get to drive a silent BMW.

Where did you get it done? What was the damage like?

Guys, the solution sounds DIY-able right?

In fact, we can totally skip 1st step in replacing the upper door seal, that may or may not solve the problem. We might as well buy the 16mm width Teflon tape to solve it in a single step & safe the cost in replacing the door seal. I guess their official approach can help push some parts sale.

I may as well check it out & look for the teflon tape.

Thanks owen, specifically what type of tape or where you got hold of it?

cheers.

It's definitely DIY-able.

Initially I was planning to do it myself, friend went and bought me some "PTFE Thread Seal Tape", adhesive version. But since my car was waiting for a tire change, I asked the mechanic to install the tape so I can see how a professional does it. He also said that changing upper door seals should be the last resort.

The problem is though, these retail DIY shops only have the white colour (which is fine for me since my car's white). I assume most would need colourless one, or else you'll have a cheap white looking tape whenever you open the doors.

BMW does sell this Teflon tape. Please refer to the parts counter at AB or Sapura. They are sold in one whole reel or per meter run. Ask for the teflon tape to solve the door squeak problem on the E60 models.

You can also try silicon spray. It's safe on rubber, plastic, paint etc... And less messy than WD40.

I thought my e60 (2004) for the only one with creaking problems..... was driving me crazy, especially when going up car park ramps, and cruising on the not-so perfect surface highways. Also thought that the sound was from the dashboard.

But most of the sound went away after I silicon sprayed the door seals, window seals, also silicon sprayed the plastic "BMW" kick-panels - didn't know which was making the noise. But I only silicon sprayed the vertical window seals (didn't want the silicon to streak down the windows). But now, I only get the odd creak now and then.... vast improvement.

I hear silicon spray is also good for re-conditioning/maintaining rubber.... don't know if it's true.

Oops, I just re-read the post warning not to use silicon on the felt area... I was thinking about that but how do you teflon that area ??? Or do u teflon only the door seal area ? I was kind of wondering whether the felt area can cause the squeaking or is it the rubber side of the felt window seal (reverse side of the felt) rubbing against the door panel ? I dare not spray that side, in case the window seal becomes too easy to pull out of the door frame...

Most BMW owners, incl myself, have had bad stories using silicone for door creaks. Depends on luck perhaps.

The Teflon tape is installed on the body frame of the car only - along the top where the doors' felt comes into contact with the body frame. Read BMW's SIB that I linked on previous page, it even shows picture illustrations.
