COSTLY MINI REPAIR

My wife sent her MINI to AB Glenmarie today and was shocked after being told that the cost of repair for faulty seat adjustment/tilt is around 3K !!!.Decided to get it repaired somewhere else......

It's purely a mechanical problem. 3K for labor and so called ??'frame' replacement....
it's really absurd.

The warranty expired about 2 weeks ago.
AB have yet to repair/replace my broken rear seat release (under warranty) lodged about a month ago and now this...

I notice that it takes only 3 days to get replacement parts from Singapore if your car isn't under warranty but more than 1 month if it's still under.

At the rate of new car price increase I dont think I'll be able to afford a new BMW/Mini anytime soon but I am shocked with the after sale service that AB provides, even if I had the $$$ i wouldnt opt for a new car @ such premium prices with lousy service.

BMW Malaysia what are u doing about AB?

Looks like the rear seat release can broken easily sa reported in BMW Car mag. They run a long term MCS nad the rear seat release was broken as well, so it could a design fault, fight for a free replacement!

I'll definitely fight for free replacement.
Called them again (AB JB) today but still no news abt the spare parts.
I'm not happy.

Sad to hear about your problem. I think you can still get them replace the parts for free. Try to talk to the manager or a guy named Dun at Glenmarie. He might be able to help you with it, but no promises.

You had the car more than 2years already?

u make me lose my appetite.i just send my mini for the same problem and my bad is i didnt ask for quotation.just call up AB just now total damaged is rm1900 including replace of the frame seat and servicing (engine oil ,coolant,brake fluid,power steering fluid)whew what a relieve.and the frame seat comes with 1 year warranty.
may i know where you fix you seat outside?

hi,

did u buy the car brand new? cos my previous mini had the exact same problem, after only 2 months.. serious.. must be a design flaw as several other owners had similar probs.. they changed the whole seat and the rail also as the damn airbag light wouldnt go away..

i think if u come down to ab with all gunz blazing, they'll think twice before quoting redicilously.. gud luck with the repair..

i bought my mini cooper second hand,unfortunately one hour i took the car wifey try to adjust the backrest and its broken.according to the mechanic its a common problem to mini.so becareful with it.the handle near the door is to push down to slide the seat front and the handle near the handbrake is to pull up to adjust the backrest.the breakdown of the cost is part for the seat cost like rm1288,labour rm 187 and servicing about rm 500 plus .total damage is rm 1913.good thing is the parts come with one year warranty.

Most new MINI owners mistaken the slide & fold handle on the right hand side of the seat to the handle to adjust the seat angle too, so too much force may result in damaging the handle & mechanisim. The handle to adjust seat angle is located at the left hand side of the seat.

I gather from the mag that this was a common problem in the early MINI & it has since been improved in later models.

Sent my Mini to AB Johor Bahru instead since I know the guys well enuff to negotiate 50% discount on the parts (goodwill). Changed both seat framesets etc and paid only RM1800.
I guess AB Glenmarie is really f**&*&^^.
