Just some sharing on my recent experience on E60 cooling system. I have a 2004 525i with a M54 motor. I recently had the coolant replaced and the system flushed. During this work the garage told me that there is a small blank plug behind the oil filter that is weeping coolant, signs of old coolant round the outside of it. Due to me being lazy I forgot to get it replaced. Coming back from Penang over the new year the blank plug decided to fail loosing coolant and causing the car to overheat, fortunately I stopped the car before any engine damage was done. The car was towed to Auto Bavaria in Georgetown. Unfortunately the car was not registered into the BMW system so they could not easily help until the car was registered, more than RM 1K !! Fortunately the service advisor knew of a local BMW specialist who had the parts in stock and who could repair the car there and then. From this story 2 things, get the blank plug replaced and the Y shaped pipe near to it if you have an E60. Second thing, if you are in Penang and need a BMW specialist then look no further than ZF Auto Centre Lot 638 Belakang 17, Lorong Birch, 10250 George Town, Pulau Pinang. A BIG thanks to those guys
