Hi, just have a few questions regarding insurance claims.
  • If I modify my car (e.g. HID lights, M3 bumper, etc...), when I get into an accident (touch wood!), can I claim for all those items? Or would insurance be applicable to stock standard items only?
  • In betterment cases, what level of control do we have over the price that they quote? For example, if I'm supposed to pay 20% of the cost because of betterment, but they quote RM2000 for a part when I know it can be obtained for RM1500 only, can I dispute that? Can I offer to show them where to source the part?
  • Would additions of performance enhancing parts (e.g. sprint boosters, modified intakes, etc...) nullify your insurance?
Thanks!

You may be able to get your claim based on;

1. Your modifications are approved by JPJ.
2. You have specifically informed the insurance company of your modifications. Most times than not, modifications including changing of engines are done without informing JPJ and your insurer. Technically speaking, it would nullify your insurance policy, too.

Don't think many people actually bother to do that (i.e. seek JPJ approval). Guess it's up to how you negotiate with the insurance people then.
