Just a heads-up, the Castrol Edge 0W-40 is going for RM149 at Tesco now. This is the 4L bottle. IIRC they usually go for RM195 per bottle. Bought two at Tesco Ampang, not sure if other Tesco are having similar deal.

Slightly off topic and purely hear-say... so, don't shoot me for this.

I hear some folks will never buy their engine oil off the hypermarts shelf claiming that it has high chance being fake. Is this possible? Does anyone have any real experience of fake engine oil and if so, how would you know anyway?

Most I heard is dont buy from spare part shops, not hypermarket. Tesco bought these oils in bulk for their international business chain, the ones selling in their stores are actually made in Europe, unlike the local one which is made in Malaysia. Even the bottles are different.

Yes, you are correct. Tesco sells genuine goods. Mobil 1 was sourced from within their buying network.

How about something that's fully synthetic? I went to Mekatronic and they sell this TOTAL brand oil, no confidence with it at all, haha

Nope, I've never heard of them before. I wanted this initially but 10W-40W is not LL-04 certified:

I know but they are not very popular in Malaysia and besides, it's hard to tell if they are selling genuine oil. That's the reason why some of us buy Castrol/Mobil from hypermarkets or petrol stations too

This is the one that I bought. Not sure if the different packaging is a regional thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't diesel engines generally use oils specified for diesel engines? Something about more cleaning additives.
