My car is almost 10 years old.Someone recommended that I do de-carbonising / carbon cleaning or something along that line.Anyone done that before?Should I or should I not?

So, it is advisable@recommended la..

Ok, will try. What would the cost be and does the process take a long time?

liquid moly is just an additive.

some folks do an engine flush, ie drain all the engine oil, then flush it with additive
for more hardcore folks, they actually strip the engine to clean the internals (not cheap n time consuming but way better results)

Steven, i believe what jarance was referring to the Liqui Moly Jet clean tronic which does the purging and cleaning of the fuel line.BMWCM were invited to attend the grand opening of the shop where members had the opportunity to learn more about this product.

oh...think thats still a flushing type of option.
alot of the carbon build-up are really hard to get rid of, even with flushing.

was thinking more of a scenario like this...keke

That is sludge built up in the non heated part compartment. i.e. oil side.

There can be also carbon built up at the combustion side i.e. intake valves and piston head.

For engine sludge built up, you can use oil engine flush and oil treatment

For carbon built up, you can use JetClean.

Just called Atmosphere Motorsport.
Quite enticing.. but unfortunately no discount for Beemers, yet.

So, Mr jarance, did you actually tried the Liqui Moly Jet clean tronic?
Please do share your experience/results..

Think theres an ongoing discussion with Atmoshpere Motorsport for giving OM discounts.
In the mean time, you can join us as an Official Member,so you will get discount when things are sorted out.

Jarance, The $$$ is well spent. I was the first BMWCM customer since their opening last Sat ~ was there this morning even before they open their doors. Now my car is quieter, engine feels "smoother" and is more powerful especially at speeds above 80kmh. I think the other two OMs feels the same :) I've made appointment to do up another car on Wed.

If my 15yr 250k milage scrap value car can still get back the "almost new car feeling" I am pretty sure other cars out there can achieve improved performance. Incidently my valves pressure is now at a very good 0.8bar - very fuel efficient, even better than my heart :(

I can testified to UDM68's statement, coz I was the second in line there. Had my Blackie's engine Jet Cleaned, flushed, replaced with new oil and Cere tac'd. So much quieter, smoother and responsive now.

Thought I should give a short review after the de-carbonization of my engine on Monday afternoon.

1. E39 525i M54B25 engine
2. Mileage recorded - 284,000 km
3. Prior to de-carbonization - pour in 1 bottle of Liqui Moly Cara Tech on Sunday morning
4. De-carbonization - 45 minutes

After de-carbonized, the engine feel smoother, more quiet and more responsive with throttle response. Today I decided to monitor the fuel consumption and to my surprise, the consumption now is average 8.5L/100 km as compared to 12.5L/100 km previously. I never had this consumption before even though I had replaced new MAF and pre-cat O2 sensors.

Ok, went through the thread.
Feel stupid for posting the question when there is already an ongoing thread..
Well, since I drive an e46, I only log in / bookmarked the e46 forum..

Anyway, thanks for the info.
Still thinking whether to do it now or wait next year for the proposed discount..

I think the discount is only extend to Official Member of BMWCM..

Not to worry.. there are many threads of similar in nature and there is no such thing as a stupid question. only just stupid answer!

Hi guys,
one question, after the de carbo process, do you have to use liqui moly engine oil or any other engine oil is ok?

Carbon cleaning would not touch your engine oil bro. The machine is hooked up to your fuel line to the combustion chamber, clearing your valves. So you can maintain any engine oil left, or do a complete engine flush with them on LM........

No more discount at atmosphere motorsport :motz:

CM were informed by Atmosphere Motorsport that they are waiting for Liqui Moly to revert on percentage of discount to be offered to OM of BMWCM . Most likely will be before end of Dec. So just wait for a while.
