Guys, thinking of getting new mobile broadband modem. Any suggestion which one to choose? Celcom, Maxis, Digi, P1Wimax? Appreciate if you can share your experience.

For mobile broadband, I don't have personal experience. But I have read a lot of comments on the lowyat.net forum as well as heard from a few friends who have tried them. The best is Digi. The worst is P1Wimax. With Celcom and Maxis in the middle but closer to P1 rather than Digi. Generally I haven't heard anything good about our local mobile broadband except for Digi.

Personally, I'd go for wired broadband (Time is the best, but extremely limited coverage).

Digi Blackberry RM68 Smart Plan got tethering ka?

And yeah P1 hopeless. YTL Wimax is coming soon.

based on my personal experience, celcom broadband never failed me and they have the most 3g coverage.

I do a lot of business trip (local) and my office mates who travel with me that using maxis/digi have to find wifi hotspot just access their email.

well, my take for our local broadband player:

digi: their strength only in klang valley area.(less customer database using 3g,as such they hv plenty of bandwidth)

maxis: I dun c any of their strength xcept the iphone..duuhh and I was informed that their bandwidth are full due too many customers subscriber. that caused slow.

for wimax: we are loooong way to go compare other country.

looking forward for hsbb (fiber to home) frm tm.

cheers.

i use celcom too. At times, it did give me issues of not connecting on GPRS. When it's on WCDMA or EDGE it sucks but this doesn't happen often. When it is on GPRS, it is damn nice. In terms of coverage, Celcom works well for me outside of KL. P1 is th least I would consider right now.

used maxis boardband in Jb for a while before and feel that the speed is excellent! compare to streamyx 1mb, maxis is faster. only tried maxis so unable to give comment on other bb service provider.

been using Celcom 3G (RM 98 package) for close to a year n a half now..no issues with it at all, except for recently when i had slow connection speed. But i guess it will be resolved by today latest..

Use Celcom broadband for a year now. Good coverage across the nation.

heard maxis advertise for RM48/month with free modem. What is the catch?

for coverage celcom la. for speed, digi.
but as far as i am concerned, malaysia is still in the dinosaur age in terms of broadband speed and coverage. In SG for example, 3MB speed is normal la. and guaranteed.
My screamyx has nver gone beyond 385kbps even tho i am paying for the 1MB package. GO FIGURE

I am on Maxis Broadband as I commute often..........not bad but noticed recently that coverage for Mxis is getting poor..........wonder why??

if you are mostly in KV, JB, Penang, Seremban, try out UMobile. It is relatively still a newly start up company. Coverage is ok, but capacity is abundant!

broadband speeds are essentially on best effort basis. the access speed is always high but coupled with the amount of users using it, it gets congested esp when you have one or two heavy users.

so, try out the new player before their network gets congested too ;)

i have used P1 wimax..sucks..returned it... used celcom bb n maxis bb at the same time.. actually got maxis bb first , but it sucks so much that I subscribed to celcom eventhough I have to continue paying maxis for one year AND NOT using it!! celcom is OK.. Maxis even when I am centre of KL also damn slo and dropped connections.. heard DIGI is good though.. still using celcom now and no qualms..

was told by sales person that the RM48 is only for up to 3GB of data per month. after that gotta pay.

For static or home use only, the best choice will be Streamyx.

If you are going mobile, from my experience, Celcom had the best speed and coverage. Celcom guys are spending lots of $$$ to expand their coverage and ensure good download speeds. Maxis have the coolest ad promoting their broadband but for some reason their download speed was really bad.

Haven't used Digi yet but I heard good feedback about their service especially in the area they are covering. Digi's coverage is the smallest compared with Maxis or Celcom.

Try to find out if you can get a trial subscription from all the Broadband providers and try them out in the areas you will be using. If you need to go all over the country then Celcom is the best choice.

normally during "trial" you get very good connection and speed. After trial it just goes downhill. Not sure if this is a marketing tactic :)

Actually i've noticed this too. Thought it was just me being a paranoid android.

Hmmm...

Erkkkk.. MAXIS? must be the fastest on test but is it the most reliable?

I dunno whether to post or not when I see this thread. Since this my area, what the heck I just wanna share my 2 cents opinion. Before I start, just want to inform that I work as salesperson with TM Net previously & now merged wt TM. I will try not to give 1 sided opinion. 1st of all, what is broadband? It is any access which is more than 256k bandwidth. 1M or 2M is not the speed. In IT term speed is latency which is how fast data rate transferred from 1 point to another which is measure in miliseconds. However more bandwidth means more application can run thru it which indirectly contribute to better speed. To compare TM directly with mobile telco is not fair. Each telco has their own strenghts & weaknesses. Come back to thread starter Q, he is looking for broadband when travelling so streamyx is out of the senario. For mobile provider it depends on coverage, pricing, performance, stability, term & condition.
Each users has their own preferences. Same like car, some like BMW, some kapchai, some 4X4, some MPV. Even for same brand ie BMW got many series & model. I guess like buying car, you have to test all the provider to get to know what you need. Also cannot compare M'sia with other country as well, coz same like the Govt comparing price of fuel in Msia cheaper than Indon, Thai or SG. 1 thing maybe good to me but not others. Aiyah tired lar. I log in this forum for the love of BMW although I know it's Banyak Makan Wang & Banyak Masuk Workshop:smokin:
