Hi, firstly I have the 520i. A colleague has a 523i. (He bought it a year before me - and I have drive it quite frequently outstation etc) No doubt smoothness on the 6 cylinders but on a car like the F10 - you hardly feel the difference within the cabin. You might get a slight clatter outside the car, but in the cabin, no difference. Power and torque - the 520i pulls better and really responsive compared to the 523i. So far the turbo is really fun. Consumption - 520i - much better than the 523i Engine Generation - the 520i has the newer award winning N20 engine (similar with 528, the newer F30 320 and 328s) - an engine with alot of potential., 523i has the previous generation 6 cylinder magnesium block. Features, 520i has Eco-pro, auto start stop, updated CIC with better features. comes with the comfort and comfort+ settings. $$$ - if you are taking a loan, the interest may be higher on a pre-owned(pre-registered). I was in the same dilemma as you in January, I picked the 520i over the 523i, never regretted. (But I kept my E60 with the 6 cylinder in case I need the rush).
