welcome to world of "racun" :D i started just wanting to change my stock speakers to coaxials.....but was told like someone here says that it is not much better....then considered the powered subwoofers...... but ended up selecting the component systems with new component speakers up front, whilst maintaining the Head Unit/Cd changer and also maintaining the rear stock speakers but adding a 12" subwoofer in the boot. To do this of course you need an amplifier. Since i opt for new component speakers, i had to get the 4channel amp ..... 2 channels to drive the front speakers and bridged the other 2 channels to drive the 12" sub. I tried a run-in 10" sub before (on trial) and the conclusion is go for the 12". Otherwise the good insulation in BMWs will mean than the 10" cant deliver as much bass to the cabin compared to the 12"....and i am not a person who listens to boom boom music. Believe me, it is a world of difference from the stock audio system. Another option which my friend had installed recently on his E46 is http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/inde...showtopic=10174 Alpine SWD-1600 Under Seat Active Subwoofer.....doesnt sound that "natural"....a bit muffled. Whether this or that option, you still need an installer to make the connections to the Head Unit on the dashboard which means removing some panels etc etc. Look around and get a good installer whos is experienced in installing audio for BMWs.
