Eggie, can't help myself but to ask you, since you seem to have both vehicles, which i had intention of purchasing, in one garage. I ended up with e32, but still itchy for S-class. So, how is e32 compared to an S-class? Feel? Performance? Maintenance costs? etc... etc... etc...
Hey bro,
Nice to hear from you. Well, you're itching for the W140 too? Haha. Well, in my opinion, Mercs will always be number one in terms of comfort, whilst the E32 seemingly fares better in terms of handling dynamics.
Which engine capacity tickles your fancy? The S280, 320? I've tried out both the 280 and 320 before, and both feels remarkably solid. Of course, the extra 400cc does help to lug around all that weight. For me, the S class does seem a bit clumsy at times, due to its heft and sheer weight, but it's seemingly the most comfortable cruiser for long distance cruising.
Kickdown in the Merc, albeit not as instant as the E32, is simply on another level. The added 200cc over the 730i does play a part in making such a heavy car accelerate into the nether regions of speeds in excess of > 180km such an easy task.
Maintenance wise, I would say the Merc is slightly better. Price wise, both are remarkably cheap now, and I must add that these cars will not have been driven very hard. Then again, it's probably a good car to bling up, judging from the number of W140s I've came across with Brabus, Lorinser rims, and of course, many have taken it to heart, by adding chrome badges with their initials along the rear.
Although I'm a bit biased towards the E32 since it's my daily drive, I must say, take the W140, and you'll definitely not regret it. After all, you could own two of the greatest luxo-barges Germany has ever made during that era!
