Hi guys/gals..can anybody give an opinion on AUDI 1.8T (A) in term of reliability, parts availability, service, performance and handling. I am thinking to get one, probably trade my 328i for it.The price seem to be so attractive, for yr 1999 only in the region of RM80-85K...for yr 2000/01 in the region of RM100-105K. Considered a really good buy for the car below 6 yrs.Cheers mate.

I used to own an 1999/2000 Audi 1.8 QT. It's a quattro version. I used it for about 2 yr and then sold it off due to work relocation.

All I can say it is a sweet ride. I looked good and quite easy for me to pick up girls when I go to clubs. But again, this is all hapenning in USA. For me to do upgrades on the interior and exterior is quite cheap due to the pricing level that is way lower than malaysia.

The car never gave me any major issues as I always send it for checkup to the service center and the best thing is the guy that sold me the car became my friend. So, I always gotten a good service from the service center. If they can't fix it, he will refer me to other Audi service centers.

I'm not so sure about the servicing and maintenance in Malaysia as i never own it in Malaysia. Hope you will get better servicing and maintenance unlike the AB service that are well known to be slow.

But, I can tell you this, you can never get the same feeling driving a bavarian made machine, look good all the time even when you drunk, and you get more chicks driving it (hope wifey is not reading this..hahaha) :aggressive:

Good Luck..

I heard from my mech who own a Audi....maitainance n part is rather higher than Bimmer.....

There were lotsa of maintenance issues for this model and I dunno if the current franchisee extends their service for these cars. I'm more familiar with the new model which I'm very impressed with in terms of built quality and reliability! It seems better than E46. Yet again, my bro's car is CBU.

Guys..thanks for the reply. Yes! JPB bro..i am refered to CBU Audi A4 1.8T yr 2000/01, test drive yesterday and last nite i couldnt sleep think about it. Its only RM105K negotiable...i am impress with the short drive.

I love the power and handling of my current 328i but i hate the "krek-krek" sound from the door panel and sometime i dont know from where its come from, the glove box also the glue come off, the front piller come off aiyaa just hate that minor minor issues lah.

bro mont-o,

I have been driving an Audi A4 for a few years now... (not mine/family car) I would say that maintainence is indeed high and there are not many Audi specialists out there thats really good. The electronics are also very sensitive and prone to failure...... compare to the OBC of the 328i I think BMW OBC are far more reliable. But like you said the car does feel more responsive and fun.... this is Audi quality but you might notice that the value does depreciate faster than UDMs...... more towards the Alfa ranges.... just a thought...... hehe....

Then again it depends on what you want.... Ultimate Driving Machine or Vorsprung Durch Technik......

Ohh! also it is built with Alumunium so no rusting problem like UDM's

:) just my 2p

bro, take the (A) away and put (M) then you are talking. Put a chip then lagi syok (200bhp instantly). Then but bigger turbo and intercooler and all sorts of stuff, 400bhp has been achieved though I would say 250bhp is probably more sane & pleasant :p

ha ha ha OsFlanker aka BungeeJ..yalah i think i been attacked by (M) and BHP virus  Waaa you now talking about chipping, bigger turbo, higher BHP...can i borrow the yellow kookaburra ka?

Eh! i read somewhere in this forum, somebody said you are actually graduated in Engineering but accidentally become accountant..its true? :D

Cheers mate...No more ATP tennis ka now?

That explains why he carries a 2-tonne jack around and can change tyres for damsels in distress in a jiff! :D

JPB,

Euromobil does service the B5, but their charges are something else. Maintaining the B5 can be very expensive. Parts are definately more expensive in comparison to the bimmer. Nonetheless, rest assured, it's a car you will enjoy. The B7 2.0 FSI is something i believe you would very much appreciate.

For the Audi A4s prior to year 2000, heard lots of horror stories esp with transmission !

Servicing cost is definitely higher than BMW.

Apa ini lah? Me not an engineer nor did I study accountancy at university. The furthest I got in physics & chemistry was form 5!

You don't need to be an engineer to want bhp - just read some magazines, go chop shop crawling with zoggee and prepare some $$$ :p

Bro, check out the star classified - there is one unit 1999 golf 1.8t (M) for sale. Asking for 99k (neg)

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI 1.8 (M) Turbo '99/2000, 1 owner, acc free full service record, silver RM99k neg. Tel: 012-6950851/ 78805563

Be sure to let me test drive if you buy it :D

how will euromobil ever get a foot hold if their servicing and parts are sky high?! no point spending all that money promoting the car if customers are gng to cry foul each time they sent their cars in...

Mont-o,

stick to your beemer, unless of course you enjoy driving a hovercraft! Audi (esp true for non quattro) has got the most lifeless steering feel in any conti cars (ok may its the same for older mercs), it is so light and lack of feel. No amount of power can compensate, what it is lacking. I've driven an ABT chipped 1.8T with approx. 200hp. It was fast but that was it. Not impressed at all. If you like power (only if you chip) and don't mind the lifeless steering feel, get the audi or you may want to consider powerboat or hovercraft as alternatives!
Disclamer:I am of course talking about pre 2004 model. never driven the new model which may have different steering feel.
