As for my E39, it comes with chrome finish but as most of us face the problem of watermark I have decided to paint it matte black (find below the result). I did it since I'm upgrading my car look to M Sport and totally new paint for whole car. The tired looking pillar also being repaint to matte black. There is one forumner here did a good DIY by fine sanding the chrome. The result is polished silver.
