Hi guys,I believe it is better for me to start a new thread here since not everyone is into arowana fish :) just to share some pics of my arowana (pearl arowana). Anyone out there has arowana fish too? Pls share pics on the beauty... thankscheers

when i bought her back in 2004, somewhere around aug 2004, she was just a 2.5 inch baby...so i guess she is now close to 3 yrs old? :p

Emm...just about when mine died......becareful if you're using submersible pump, it tend to leak(the current)...that how my silver died...sigh!

Lovely aro you have there!

I love arowanas and had 5 in the past. Two silvers, one gold, then two reds.

Unfortunately, they didn't love me as much and decided to do the backstroke... I guess thats what happens when I trust friends/family to take care for me when I'm away :p

 im sorry about your aro...u were saying pump leak? leak like how? aro are sensitive to water conditions, so must put in a lot of TLC, if water dirty or cloudy or smelly then must change water. I usually change 70% of water every 3 weeks.

Why dont u buy a new aro? perhaps a malaya blue base? :) ehhe

Forgot to say, my fav one also started around 2.5 inches, then 5 yrs later she got too big for her tank.

thanks absidian, yeah never trust other people on your aro, hehe
if u r away for a couple of days then it should be alright...coz juvenile or adult aro can tahan hunger for a couple of days but if u r away for weeks or months then a bit susah.

yeah aro is a beautiful fish, elegant but also look damn lazy becoz they cruise slowly in the water. But as we all are aware, i think pearl aro is the fiercest species of all, sometimes when i feed her, she tend to be very aggressive. Tried to introduce a few tank mates for her but all died  coz she bites them. Put a similar size DBKL fish in also kena gigit sampai mati, put smaller silver shark kena telan hidup hidup...put oscar, she chased the poor oscar too...its better to leave her alone by herself :)

good observations there russie, mine did about the same.

Silvers I tried to breed together as pair, they got along fine coz apparently if they are babies together then not so bad, but they never passed 1.5 yrs.

I also introduced tank-mates to same effect, Mr DBKL mysteriously disappeared (found some leftover bones later on). Whoops.

Sometimes, they would for no reason thrash about and slam against the tank cover, maybe venting their anger when the wrong TV channel was put on :)

Haha, then we should not let the aro watch TV coz they might want you to change channels all the time :) Yeah, tank covers are relatively important coz aro are fish which cant stay still, they tend to jump~ My aro always knock the tank cover for no reason, maybe she sees some cicak or lalat on the top? So u still have aro with u now? show some pics :)

sorry la no pics, they've all gone to fish nirvana now.

So sad, when they died i couldn't bring myself to discard them... so I put 'em in the freezer (!!!) for a few weeks until I could do it :p

Once a while ,dip a test pen into the water, if it light up, mean current leaks, probably from the pump....and the fish start to jump out the water...renjatan elektrik!!...but not strong, you won't feel it with your hand..but strong enough for the fish...now my tank is still empty...tak de mood lagi dah....

Once a while I lepak kat Shah Alam water park..ada kedai jual arowana kat situ....spent hours there, tengok jee laa....mahal weh!

My father loves arowanas since i'm just a kid... I'm always the one that kena cuci tank every time it is due for change :D If i remeber correctly my father's first arowana is gold in color. One of his chinese fren gave it to him when it was very small. It ended up about 1.5 feet long after few years. One day, a very good friend of my father came to our house and offered him to pay 20K for the fish. He said that chinese ppl believe that the fish bring good luck and u look at the head properly... u can actually see numbers ;) Father said NO as he has been taken care of it from small. A week later the fish died...

Now at my parents house, he still has 3 arowanas... 2 are golden color and 1 in red... ;)

Russie what you have there is an australian pearl arowana. I had one of those. had it for 3 years and it went dead. Was very upset. I now have a 1.5k Red Arowana. Had it for 2 years now. Came with birth cert and an imbeded chip. My dream would be to own a fusion red or the Malayan Blue Base Bonny Toungue.

Do you know that the arapaima is the same family as the arowana ? Also the Arowana species actually date back to the dinosaur ages. Will post up my pictures later

Yea....so do I....:(

Arapaima is also one cool fish :D It can grow into very huge size :D
However to appriciate arapaima, u have to see from above and it is meant to be kept in a pond or something...

anakin, yeah last time when i washed the tank i felt electric current in the water too *scary* but nowadays i dont really scrub the tank walls coz its clean still :) anyway thanks for your tips.

absidian, u put them in the freezer? what if someone thinks its fish for cooking? gosh :p u can actually preserve them in a proper way to simpan as kenangan :)

drarizal, yeah the chinese believe aro is good for feng shui. But 1 thing very pantang, never go into a negotiation to sell off the aro, they are very sensitive and they know u r giving them up for $ so they will commit suicide, :p if aquarium shop owner then different story.

sithwarrior, yeah its the australian pearl arowana a.k.a. the jardini. very garang indeed. dunno about arapaima but i know arowana can be traced back in the dinosaur days. Ok quickly post some pics on your aro.. :) cant wait to see them

Btw Russie...what do you feed her with? Other than small fish & cricket, you can try cicak & lipas..tapi lipas kotor...
Try lipan (centipede)....it 's good for your fish colour & health...just make sure you buang sengat dulu....nanti jadi lain pulak..

The feeding is always interesting. There was once when it refused cricket, so I was adviced that the cricket we had was too hard/pointy causing indigestion. The last aro we trained to occasionally eat fish pellets from young, just for the additional nutrition. no problems and was very healthy but not as exciting la.
