Was seriously contemplating a pre-reg or event 520d until I read about the A6 hybrid which is expected to be launched after CNY.The A6 will boast an output of 245hp and an astounding 480nm torque from the combined engine and electric motor. Best of all, with the hybrid incentive, the car is expected to cost around circa $280kThe pre reg 520d is about $308k, event cars 298k and pre owned 288kI am in a dilemma now. Being a diesel head and more importantly staunch Bimmer fan, I find myself seriously researching on this 4 rings which is now a serious optionI love my e90 320d but home minister is beginning to complain about the harsh ride and limited space with the addition of a new family member. Am in no hurry to change as the 320d never fails to put a smile on my face every time behind the wheel. The A6 hybrid launch may dent the 520d sales, so I guess even if I choose the 520d will wait awhile.I know I am in an f10 forum but objectively, in the same shoes, what do you guys think?

Go for A6 bro.. dont have to think anymore.

I would pick Audi A6. It's a brand new Hybrid car with ample power, torque and space. The quality of Audi car is also impeccable.

Bro, if I were u and have the budget for the F10 520d, it will be a no brainer to get the AUDI A6 hybrid if its price is really circa 280k...
If I am not mistaken, i think F10 or BMW per se is already banyak masuk workshop la....:stupid:
Keep ur 320d for ur usage...A6 hybrid for wife or family....perfect.....:top::top:

Wow! A consensus for the A6 hybrid even in an F10 forum. Thanks for the honest opinions, guys.

Bro rattlesnake, in a perfect world, I'll be driving the activehybrid 5 instead :)

My only issue with the A6 is the rather bland styling compared to say the A5, to the point that you can hardly tell it from the A4 apart on the road.

Will probably pay the cocky Audi salesmen a visit soon to get more info

Spoke with an Audi sales lady. 2 specs available - $280 and $288k.

The extra 8k gets the whole shebang of navigation, sunroof and LED

Will be launched on 27th feb at Hyatt. First batch all taken by VIP and internal staff. Will have continuos shipments monthly. According to her, bookings are brisk with expected delivery of end march for new purchases. They are extremely confident of taking huge bite at 5er and E-class expense

Go for the higher specs you won't regret later.

The higher specs also include comfort access or keyless entry. For $8k extra, yeah, it's worth the money.

A little concern about the learning curve to take with hybrids. I mean, with the d, you just tekan without batting an eyelid and the grunt comes thru the rev range until 4k rpm. For the hybrid, From what I read, the extra 130nm torque from the electric motor will be available in bursts of needed boost meaning, the total of 480nm will not be available throughout the rev range but on demand basis. In the meantime, I guess the proven 2.0. TFSI with 211hp and 350nm torque should pack enough grunt to pull this beast

Wow 288k fully loaded and fully imported seems like great price. F10 going to feel a lot of pressure..... Wonder what BMW and Merc response is going to be?

from my experience, BMW has better riding comfort than the AUDI. owned and driven the Q5 and A4, no doubt the handling is superb, and the chassis is more rigid, but BMW is a better option when it comes to comfort. but, i have not tried the new A6 yet and for below RM300k for an AUDI, now that is a winner!

Price aside, you do need to consider the aftersales service.... However, the big 5 figure price difference does make it quite an irresistable offer if one is shopping at that class of vehicle.

Good point, Audi does have very limited service centers compared to the BMW but the price for the A6 is really unbelievably cheap compared to the 2.0 A4 which goes for more than RM300k.

i think if it is really priced at 280~288k....... the A6 hybrid will not just affect the 5 series but the 3 series as well.... esp the 328i

Let's wait for the official price. I don't think Audi is so stupid to cannibalise it's own A4 market.

Bro,A4 is not hybrid hence no tax exemptions.

A6 is a hybrid under 2 litre category so there is a tax exempt incentive so they can price the car lower.

if you hadn't noticed, the hybrid5 from BMW prices have been sliced more than 100k even though it is a 3liter hybrid but after some nego with MITI I think, they also managed to reduce the tax and that translated into lower prices.

Cheers.

My heart is still with the 520d due primarily to the better styling compared to the bland and boring exterior of A6.

Quite frankly, the A6 is the more logical choice. New model, proven 2.0 TFSI power plant, diesel like torque of the hybrid, German CBU, comprehensive specs ($288k model) and the tax free incentive (which expires dec 2013. I am purely speculating that this full duty free incentive, except for 10% sales tax, will not be renewed. While the NAP will still favor fuel efficient hybrids, I doubt the govt would want to lose further revenue from this category. Lower duty, yes but I think full duty rebate will be removed - this could mean, a slightly better depreciation compared to other cars - I am obviously justifying very hard to skew my decision to the A6 hybrid. Hehe

Bro, go with the one that you love or else you will regret later. Think about which one that will give you more joy and satisfaction. It's not about economics when it comes to the matter of the heart.

If it's for myself, I will go A6 for a newer car with latest hybrid technology and some more lower price. Ample space, comfortable and lots of gadgets good for a family man like myself. Euromobile is also near my place, so service no problem.

Value-wise, I would seriously consider the A6 hybrid. HOWEVER, Audis are not without its own problems. I currently own my first Audi (Q5) and already (1.5y/o) it needs a RM17k job to fix an oil consumption problem. Another friend who is an Audi fan has had 2 new A4s that needed a gearbox motronic replacement at around the 2-3 y/o mark. There are limited service centres in KL and it took about 2.5 weeks to get a service booking slot.

Ride comfort on my 535 is vastly superior to the Q5 although I know I am not really comparing like for like. However, for an SUV the Q5 handles fantastically around corners, but at the expense of comfort. A fairer comparison is that my previous Alfa 159 was more comfortable than my friend's Audi A4 on similar sized rims.

Audis are great cars to drive aggressively but BMWs are a more complete package to live with on a daily basis. The price factor in this particular case may however tip me in favour of the A6 though. But if you cannot stand the look of the Audi, then get the BMW. I chose the Q5 over the X3 because of looks, although the I knew the X3 is newer technology and should be more compfy. Call me shallow but that's just my opinion of course.
