advice 1: say hello at our Newbie section, tell us about yourself.

advice 2: 630ci is more of a poser car, rich hairdressers love it; 645ci is the proper BMW.

advice 3: buy an E92 335i instead.

Sorry to say this, but what a load of bollocks for an opinion like that! What is "proper" for one person may not be for another. Sad to see this sort of opinion.

Salam En Mustaffa,

Kan lebih baik bagi orang yang baru agar bersopan, kenal berkenalan dahulu sebelum mengeluarkan kata2 seperti begitu. Kata orang beri salam dulu.....

Ini nasihat saudara yang tua.

En Mizhan hanya menyatakan pendapatnya tentang seperti di pinta.

In fact many including myself feel the same way towards the 630 as En Mizhan. The 630 is a little underpowered for sych a big and heavy car.

Even a 325 will outrun it both in a straight line and in the twisties.

Hi All,

I have recently acquired a BMW 630i (Y2006). I would say that first of all it might be underpowered compared to a BMW 335i but then again if I would like to see the glass being half full, I can think of it as being more powerful than a BMW 320i. :)

Anyways, I would say that I bought this 630i because I really think it looks great (my personal opinion) and ever since they have launched it, I have always wanted to get one... I had to wait couple of years to muster some courage (buying a Bimmer is a big commitment :p ) and most importantly imagery paper of our Duli Yang Maha Mulia .. :) With that I have finally got myself my 630i! :)

I would say that I truly love it. I use it as my every day car (yes I only 1 car!)... So for anyone out there who would like to get a BMW 6 series, you might want to consider the following:

1) Do you really like the shape? Some say it looks beautiful. Others say it looks like half cut E60 with an ass of a Beluga whale! :) However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Most importantly, you should like it (cos you are gonna drive it, clean it, maintain it & pay for it!)

2) Where is this car from? Japan? UK? Well there are a lot of debates on this. Mine is a Japan spec. I had to install a Smart Player to play radio (which comes with a usb dongle). It is not very expensive (transmits radio via fm freq using the car's antenna) and better than installing a booster. Non-functioning GPS as well but I am not too perturbed as I plan to retrofit the new CiC. In the midst of budget planning for this.

3) What are the features in this car? Smart Key? PDC? DVD? GPS? I-DRIVE? U-DRIVE (just kidding...)

4) What is the condition of the car? Does it look new? good? A point to note. If the car looks ridiculously NEW, then you might want to check out if there were some body work done. Difficult for a laymen (like me) to tell this BUT you can do what I did. Make the seller bring the car to a BMW workshop of your choice and perform a diagnostic, under-carriage check, and engine check, etc etc before committing.. :) It doesn't matter if the seller thinks your being kiasu or kiasi or weird. At the end of the day, you will have the bear the brunt and glory of your baby... :)

5) Are you buying from a reputable seller? used car? owner? I got mine from an expat who was leaving the country. Sometimes you might get lucky like that. However, it doesn't mean all used car dealers will try to cheat you. The previous owner got the car from a 2nd hand car dealer. So it all depends on how & where u look at.. :)

6) R3... Research + Reading + Reviews. Make sure you read a lot. Forums, reviews, videos, etc on the car before you take the plunge.

7) Financing. I think this is quite individualistic. Some buy cash. Some buy via loans. So, you would need to know how much you can budget for monthly payments, general maintenance (if you are a heavy driver and need to perform 3 services a year and each service costs you 1,200/-, then you can do this calc: (1,200 x 3) /12months = RM300 set aside). Also, set aside for other sudden repairs (if any)

8) 630 vs 645? Ideally if there were no road taxes and petrol was RM1.00/liter (RON97), I would go for the 645i. :) However, since we live in a less than ideal world, I improvised with a 630i. However, if road tax and petrol is the least of your concern OR if you are going to keep it as a weekend car, then by all means go for the 645. :)

Well Sir. Those are my advices. I am not sure if they were/are helpful. However, if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me... More than glad to help.

Cheers.

vick

Hi all,

I just bought a 630i 2006 unreg comes with 1 year in house warranty. Power i think quite enough for me coz my previous S40 2.4i is much slower. Will be collecting the car in next few days. If r/tax is not so expensive i'd have gone for 645. (Mine co reg so 630i r/tax is already rm6k) Look forward to learn fr all the sifu here.

By the way thanks vick for the useful infos..

I think there's one with msport version, go for this.

I'll deemed 630Ci a dream luxury cruiser with a sex appeal.

the alfa at the back isn't bad too.

btw is 630i really slower than 325i?
630i has 258hp and a reasonable weight of 1600kg based on my google search. i'm sure it's no slouch. vmax still at an impressive 250km/h.

Attached is the spec for 325 sport

Here's the spec for 630i

Those rumours that 630i is slow are not so true coz 0-100km/h is ard 6.2s which is almost the same as much light weight cars such as Audi T.T
