I recently still not satisfied with whiining sound of my turbo decided to send for retrofitting. There is one w/shop in KL (Turbo Performance) to repair your turbo. FYI, the new turbo will cost you RM8K but retrofit with new turbo kit will cost you only RM1.2K. What I did was asked the Kulim mechanic to remove my turbo and after that I send to KL via POS LAJU. It was done within 2 days. Now no more sound .... the 530D turbo is from GARRET 22V if I am not mistaken

I should rephrase my word... retrofit means repair. Turbo is very sensitive to any leak and turbo turbine shaft is very crucial for any bend or worn out,

What they did was to replace the internal component which is made available by Garret.

bro retrofit is generally used to refer to the turbo unit in this case being sent to the shop or manufacturer for updated parts replacement or retrofit...this does not necessary means repair but to update the parts to the latest state of technology to improve the performance of the products...

i believe for your case there is some problem with the turbo unit thus requiring it to be sent to repair...

sorry for asking as i tot u sent the unit for retrofit based on my understanding...which in this case to update the parts for your turbo... :p

Does the whinning sound only appears when Load is given to the car?
Meaning if accelerated hard.
Mines only get some whinning sound when do so.
Does it mean I need to repair?

this is the place i hv sent my turbo...

anybody knows the phone number ?

Just google KL Turbo One.

Anyway, the last time I was there, the chief mechanic said it is not "recommended" to repair or refurbish this garrett turbine, reason being the fan is "variable vane" type and if the fan blades are not properly installed, the turbine may go kaput in no time. They can fix it without any guarantee = sendiri tanggung. If you are lucky, then no problem, if unlucky then you will just lose another 1.2 to 1.5k.

New turbine is less than 7k and takes about 5-7 working days to arrive.

Cheers

How much they charge you. I fixed it at RM1200 and till now after 3 years still good. I think depend on your luck.

Hi all!

I would like to find out if any of you 530d owners install a turbo timer to your car?
Does it really helps lengthen the life of the turbo?
As you know most turbo cars are fitted or will have to install these kind of timers.

I have already changed my 530d turbo a year ago and the cost of it really burns the pockets. Dun wanna go through the same thing again.

Hope to hear your advice!

Thanks.

if you dont hear any whistling sound and no evidence of consistent black smoke and u still feel G-force upon acceleration then your turbo is still good. No need to open up the turbo..massive works.
