To all 328i owners,Am wondering, with the price difference of RM50,000.00 between 320i and 328i, what made you chose the 328i?The performance diff does not seem big, 7.6 vs 6.1 secs. 17 vs 18 inch rim. I am undecided between the 2. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

dude.. 6.1 and 7.6s is not very big???

that like saying usain bolts 9.55s vs. watson nyambek's 10.55s not very far off.

the price for power and acceleration is subject to every driver's own valuation.

if money is not a problem. 328i. because the power is amazing and it is more than justified
if money is a problem. 320i because even at 7.6s it is no slouch.

Agreed with Jenny :) Heard, 328i is "the" car! But myself - never own a BMW before so I try 320i first, reserve the 50k, if the going is good....can upgrade later baahhh..btw, where the heck is Watson Nyambek nowadays? hehe

On the surface the 328 looks good. But if you look deeper, you are only paying 50k more for the same engine, a bigger LCD , rims and mainly the 328 badge.

For me the 50k extra is not worth it because the engine is the same and you can also uptune the 320 engine. In order to conner customers, BMW has put a bit better specs in the 328. Thts just what I think.

7.6 vs 6.1 secs, is an issue dude.
Think about cost to uptune the 320i, and maybe u have to wait 3 years until the end of warranty then only do it.
Cost of changing the rims and the tires?
Thinking of the specs, and perhaps the navigation... 320i don come with navigation, right?
If u don mind the upper issues, i guess 320i is ok for u.

Have you test driven either one? Honestly you can't compare the two in terms of performance. It like apple and oranges.

For the extra RM50k you get -
8 speed sports auto transmission gear box
18" inch wheels and tyres
variable sports steering
different tune which bumps up the power
8" iDrive and navigation

If money is no objection get the 328i

If you do not need the power, wheels, navigation etc. Then please opt for the 320i. But note that it will cost more than RM50k to bring the 320i up to 328i spec.

Jason dude,

loya buruk rational is like this: for RM50k..power huh, in our road..what a waste, it's jam and rain everyday. Wheels huh - well, there is no limit to the best wheels, a wheel is a wheel. Nav. system well this is the one that really makes me wondering. even cheaper Japanese cars have, why can't 320i have this option?..but then again i need the nav for singapore trip once or twice a year or if going to out of town once in the blue moon. so for saving a 50k, hmm..1.5k nav would do, after not using, keep in the bonet...

most girls and the makciks don't understand the diff. 7.6 vs 6.1 secs thus BMW would still "bring me women"! LOL...and a Z4 just overtook me!

Funny la y'all but I agree most with... both Jason and Charcoal. I switch between a F10 520i, F30 328i and RCZ. For me, the 520i never feels underpowered. Forced induction is just that different compared to 6-potter days when 523i and 525i can make a crap load of difference in engine and performance feel. So, 320i is a very very sensible buy. But... when you floor it, the JOY a 328i brings... well, you'll be awfully glad you got that bucketload of horses and torque. Is it worth 50k? Sadly, the huge gap is peculiar to Malaysia. There are some, not many, days I think it's worth it.

The same improvement by 1.5sec from the 328's time wil bring it down to 4.6sec.. beating the standard E92 ///M3.
Shld we ask if its worth paying abt anthr rm500k for the ///M3?

thanks for all the posts, didn't know that 1.5 secs mean so much in driving a BMW... and 100-200 diff is much more obvious if u check it out from utube.....
i think juan summed it up quite nicely, esp for those who live in kl...
"There are some, not many, days I think it's worth it."
however, being the Ultimate Driving Machine, i guess u def need the horses to be on stand by mode, when the "days" come

I cant affort the extra rm50k... so this is what I'll b doing...

Found a tyre shop in Sunway who has an 18" standard bmw original wheels (frm a 328i owner upgraded to a 19") who is willing to trade with my soon to be 17" wheels and i top-up rm3k. Then I'll install a "belakang khinzir"(piggy back) chip tuning box to up my torque and kuda juz in case when the "day" comes (checked with AB SC on a hush hush basis.. he said take it out b4 service and they cant detect) and cost to me max rm3k.... so far, i've budgeted rm6k... that leaves me almost a 328i but not spent d extra rm44k (rm50k - rm6k).

328i has a larger screen and comes with navi... if i really need a navi later, than i wud spend rm500 on papago.

That's my plan to up my future 320i to catch up to a 328i... coz i cant affort the extra rm50k

it is the gearbox that makes the difference in the experience... between 320i/d and 328i

if 320 , at least 320d gives you some kick in the back.

320/8i can rev all the way up, but 328i sport auto gearbox makes all the difference......but a 320i at 6-7% off is a good buy.... cheaper than that new beetle.

similarly for 520i /28i... the 'normal' 8 sp box is just not lively enuf.....that y 5 series sales is either 20d o 28i less of 20i... however for 3er seems more 20i instead.....

so anyone looking for 3 mth old 320d please contact me hahaha

Interesting plan bro :top:

Look fwd to hear & see how it goes, either at TT sessions or on your very own thread..?

So far none of the piggy back tunes can take the 320i up to 328i territory. the 20i needs more boost either through a change of hardware and a full reprogram. RM6k ain't gonna cut it. You'd also need bigger brakes too. How to catch up?

Its going to be an interesting project though.

Jason

It all depends on whether you can afford the extra 50k. if that is not an issue, then this whole thread is a no brainer. You buy BMW for the driving experience, thats what this car is built for. BMW is not a japanese car and it certainly in not a merc. Ask yourself why you are opting to buy BMW. If it is not for the driving experience, then might as well get a merc(good value for money, good resale and very comfortable... but crap driving experience). The 328 is a sweet, sweet drive. I had a 323 previously and the 328 is just a whole new experience

Ahhh...I sense very strong votes for 328i..hope I am not regreting the 320i (which should have been handed to me by now if not because of the plate no. reg. delay)...I am pondering of the coming regret...I am scared to feel like ..."oh shit, what a mistake to buy 320i, I should have bought a Camry or Mazda 6...."

I also read many times why people who have driven BMW will be BMW fans for life...guess that does not apply for 320i eh?...what a misleading variant this 320i then. BMW should have never produced it. To me although I wish to save, I can afford that bloody RM50k, it is not really the money but I thought I want value for money...so am I not getting a value for the money for a 320i?....bro and sis, I am interested in your view on this. I will treat it as my journey and experience having BMW..

One more buggering thought, if power, torque and speed matter that much (I still need to be oriented into this mind boggling world of BMW), then why opt for a sport sedan? Why not go for the sport Z4? or other makes..Fairlady, Skyline, Porsche, Audit TT or even R8?

If I only wish to cruise along the streets of KL, assuming not becoming an overtaking freak, and assuming I only wish to drive 110km/hour (or maybe curi curi 140km/hr) on highway, would 320i still do the job i.e. value for money? Any taker?

Cheer buddies...tekkedezzz

I used to have 323 as well and now driving 328, but I still miss the silky smooth I6 engine. Given a choice, I would prefer 3.0l N52 for the 328.

seriously, if you think buying a cheaper car then mod it up. i guess there is nothing to left discuss here.

after modding, do get the 328i logo as well. wait! get the 335i logo straight.

get a half cut engine from 335i and put in your 320i. spec here and there. less than RM488k?
