Hi,I bought my 528i MSport 3.0cc last year but recently when I went to Ingress for service the other day, they told me that the new 528i MSport no longer using the 3.0 engine. The new 528i MSport is using the 2.0 Double Turbo, which I dont know crap what that means and the car is RM40k cheaper.Which one is better?

Your 3.0 liter inline 6 N52B30 is silky smooth and rev willingly towards the high end. The 2.0 N20 Twin Scroll Turbo got better kick in the low end. But the kick is not so linear compare with the N52. To some fellow, it is not so comfortable.

compare engine each has its own characteristic. so its not apple to apple comparison . BUT the new 528 come with

1. sport seat
2. sport steering
3. Msport kit
4. HUD
5. save petrol ( missing 2 cyl compare with yours )
6. 600watt stereo.

try to sit on 528i 2.0L4 for high speed,u will notice th the turbo will go breathless after 200kmh++ if compare to 3.0L6.....
tested 328i L4 last week, when on high rev, straight away my wife asking, how come this engine is so noisy compare to ours 528i:D
no doubt it have better OHMMM when low speed for L4 due to higher torque, but me still prfer the silky smooth feel of L6....:D

cheers

I stick with "no replacement for displacement".

im with u on this.. i preferred the smooth feel and the high revving soundtrack.

That's the drawback of Turbos :) The sudden surge of power compared to smooth linear power delivery of the NA.

true bro, but BMW has already begun with the 4 pots with turbo for the F30 range....now all here with 4 pot turbos... sad.. only the 335 with twin turbos with almost half million price tag..

I'm not sure what is behind their strategy but it looks like they are giving up all the 6 cylinder engines for smaller capacity engines with turbo. Only the high end models are running on 6 cylinder these days. It's sad indeed.

Its for them to comply with EU emissions requirements/regulations. Better efficiency engines.

downsize of engine is the trend now .. it happens everywhere .. indeed BMW is slow starter on this ..... even F1 also downsize from the earlier V12 (I think) ... to now 2.4 litre V8 .... and moving forward to 1.6 litre V6 turbo :) in the future

Anyone knows what is the max. boost bar/psi for the N20 Turbo engines?

Much more tunable engine, win? :D

I love the sound of the inline 6 too but the world moves on...

I think most if not all 6 cylinders lovers should either choose to accept the fact now or force to later :) Downsizing is a trend that all auto-makers persue... Unless there is a breakthrough to manufacture cars that drink water instead of fuel.

If you are not with them, you can always folk out more money for V8, which are for those power hungry ppl.

Honestly, how frequent do you drive above 150km/h ? Let's face it, IT'S TURBO TIME !!

Downsizing era is already on going and is going to hit the peak soon.
Merc S class has already rolled out first 4 cylinder S class in its entire history since the W108 era
Volvo S80 comes in 1.6 and the Latest F30 is coming in with a 316I likely to use the turbo powered 116/118i Engine seen in F20.

You can say ppl who favors IL6 are old school, but no one can deny the fact of the smoothness and linear delivery of power of such engines that has ruled the Mid Exec class cars for so many decades.
For those who are used to the IL6 and think it will be well missed... just embrace and think that you have one of the last built IL6 E90/ F10 and enjoy it
For those who support the FI engine/ diesel.. Be happy with the new development and technology..

Win Win situation for both group.

I am one of the former
