A small follow up on Herbert's post about fitting a Dynavin into an E60. I recently had one installed into my 2005 Japanese spec 525i. It took the installers 7 hours to complete it and then I was left with the airbag light lit, it needs to go and get reset if I can find the time.

Comments on the Dynavin system? It works ok, the navigation is a bit slow to update and it doesn't always find the best route, I tried it going from work in KL to my home and it did not want to go the way I always go, it is quite accurate on my location though.

One major gripe is the IDrive controller and the reaction of the Dynavin unit to it, when I move the controller to operate the function or settings of the Dynavin system it is far too sensitive, for example to move from one function to the next in the old system was just a click of the controller, now when I move the controller the function on the Dynavin system jumps around all over the screen, I am told that Dynavin is working on a fix and that the problem is caused by the Jap spec controller.

The rest of the functions seem to be working ok. If you are considering installing into a Japanese spec car PM me and I will give you more information.

UPDATE

The car has been back to Dynavin and they tell me that because my car is a Japanese spec then the system will have issues when using the idrive controller. very frustrating, if I had known this I may of considered replacing the complete computer and not just the head unit.

Rick,

I am rather surprised it took the installer 7 hours to complete the installation plus they did not even rest the airbag light for you. Which auto accessories did you go to? I even had a reserved camera installed together with Dynavin and took about 4 hours including testing. As for the navi, it is a Papago GPS and I thought it is rather good. On the iDrive controller, I have no issues with the problems that you encountered and mine is a CKD model.

I agree with Herbert, it shouldn't take more than 4 hours.

Dear Herbert,
Are you able to control bluetooth volume during incoming call?

I agree that 7 hours was a long time especially as I was waiting round at the workshop. If you PM me I will let you know the name of the installer, needless to say I am not very impressed with either the performance of the Dynavin unit or the installation time and the outstanding airbag light.
I have emailed Dynavin in Germany to see if the story of the Japanese spec causing control issues is correct or is my unit faulty. I will post any feedback I receive on here.

The total package RM 2000.00 and they will loan you spare headlamps while they do it for 3 days. As far as wiring, they changed the frontal wire assembly.

Was very displeased with the service provided by K.K.Lau Car Audio Specialist Sdn Bhd. Focal amplifiers was faulty and the Celestra amplifier doesn't worked to expectation. Job was not fully completed after 5 days and complaints of returning amplifiers was met with hesitation and all sorts of excuses. This shop should be avoided at all cost.

Already dismantled all his handiwork and my ride is now at Pete's Car Audio and Accessories (CV Audio). Peter is a pleasant guy to work with and answer all your worries immediately. Awaiting new items arrival to be installed.

*Return the Celestra amplifier and was given a refund less 20% handling fees.

Actually I second bro hoodpeter's comment on CV Audio. Peter is one of the best and patient guy is worked with during my ownership of E60. He has worked on my E60 twice - first was in 2008 where he installed Kenwood DVD/CD/USB player; reverse camera and Garmin Nuvi GPS to work on my iDrive screen. Second was in 2012 where he installed Gladen sound system + 5-channel alpine amp to replace the stock speaker and to add more oomph to the bland sound. Third time was not related to BMW but he worked magic on my Hilux sound system. Needless to say it sounded great (as I drive Hilux as my daily workhorse). If you want window tint , 3M style mat , number plate or even light bulb.. He has it! But of course his forte is the ICE :)
Below is the link on the works he did on my car in 2012... But that was in 2012 as he has since moved to Section 19 PJ

Update May 2015 for Dynavin installation

The airbag light has been fixed, the installers broke the wire connector on the back of the passenger airbag unit during installation. Unit is still difficult to use due to the difficulty of controlling the curser with the I-Drive controller. The navigation unit takes about 10 minutes to finish the satellite tracking function before it can tell you where you are, not good if you are lost.

hi guys

just wanna check if anyone has upgraded their e60 pre LCI angel eyes to LED? these are the ones that dont trigger the fault. Thanks
