which is the sensor ?

my car is the M43 engine , will it look the same ?

so far , have you experienced the MAF sensor having problems when wanted to accelerate ?

ya, one more thing, will you add a Grounding Kit to your car & do you think a Grounding Kit will improve the overall performance of your car ?

Actually m43 is easier to access compared to my n42..

Recently, after i had my first service, the car developed i new problem. At times the idling is rough, and during acceleration, the rpm goes haywire.. power will dip and suddenly power up..

Was very annoyed and sad, cos when i read more bout this, there were even threads suggesting gearbox problem.. but after many advice ppl telling to cleab the maf sensor, i boldly decide tk do it.
Also, i remembered asking the mechanic to blow my air filter, but he air blow this sensor, in the begining i did not about this sensor. Begin researching, n found that this maf sensor is very sensitive and need to use this specific sensor spray to clean it.. i think the mechanic made the sensor dirty when he blow air into the sensor..

Bro,

I personally think ( i might be wrong) adding this grounding cable will not serve any good purpose.. the bmw designers and engineers are professional and would have taken consideration of the grounding of the car when they designed the car..

I dun have any additional grounding cable in my car n dun intend to do so..

Just curious if i add k&n open pod air filter can i get 3 to 4 hp increase.

Yes there would be some difference when u change to K&N. dont hv the numbers to back it up, but acceleration feels better. Go for it!

Meaning we must not mess up with MAF sensor, else we have ourselves to blame, point noted.

And changing to K&N air filter system does give that extra boost , my question is roughly how much would that cost & where can I have it done at a good price or just DIY ? Would the placement of the MAF sensor location with the K&N filter changed after that ?

Finally, extra grounding on BMW cars would not have a difference compared to JDM ?

Never never use compress air to clean the MAF sensor. You will damage it.The MAF consist of 2 thin flim wires which is placed in the path of the air flow.
One wire is to sense the air flow and the other is for the air temperature.
They are very delicate and will break even with slight physical force.

Just spray and clean it with MAF sensor cleaner.

The K&N filter is a direct swap with the air filter. Very much a DIY. When i bought the K&N in 2011, it cost me rm500 (yes very very expensive from a premium vendor) as i was a noob that time. My guess its lower now. Do note, eventhough the K&N does not need to be changed, it needs to be serviced/cleaned every 40k km(well thats what i do anyway). U can either buy the cleaning kit for arnd rm100+ or u can send it for service at a place in jln 223 for arnd rm15.

Grounding? Hmmmm well dont see any need for it as i dont hv any requirement to do so.

There are 2 types of k&n, drop in and cold air intake. Drop in, for me i did not really never see any improvement from my forte when i install it 5 yrs ago. Only advantage is can clean and reuse back. Cold air intake might be a better option but for best performance, we need to upgrade the exhaust as well for hp increase.. for time being, will be opting for drop in first.

Gendong,

Could you recall the part no for the k&n part no? Thx

Jarance,

Its part of my mistake also, i was the one insisting to clean the air filter, but the mechanic should have told me about, if he is pro.. nvmd.. but i saw him gently blowing only.. think he knew about the maf but he just blowing it for my satisfaction sake or purposely did it for me to revisit him again so that he can charge me a big sum..

rsdn26, have you managed to resolve the steering free play?

I have a crazy cheap solution..

if i remember correctly my drop in K&N part number was 33-2231. for me, CAI if only ur going Stage 2. Else, drop in is sufficient.

Jarance,

Sorry for not informing earlier on this issue. Its more of bumpsteer rather than freeplay.. it had reduced after changing my old tyres.. but the bumpsteer still evident.. also noticed significant leak at the power steering reservoir.. next have to address this issue probably change some hoses, filter and power steering oil change and radiator minor leak..
