Yes, this is too expensive, price now should be <rm100.
I got mine here :
http://www.lazada.com.my/scanner-140-diagnostic-interface-code-reader-scan-for-bmw-e38-e39e46-e53-e83-audew-intl-5179928.html

It works on win xp, heard also on win 7, but need some tweak, try Google it.

Hi kw930,

Is it safe to purchase overseas products from lazada? Any tips to to look for before purchasing. I saw double din installation kit in lazada for rm148 which is really cheap and tempted to buy for my double din diy with reverse camera

I just checked with my regular accessories technicians about getting a normal 2 din player ( take out from my old car ), the ans is not advisable, cos it will not fit like factory fitting.. it will protrude out and will look not professional.

Thats the reason the aftermarket e46 player, even though its dual din, the inner part is still single din.

Great to knoe a new E46 owner, myself too joined this bandwagon 5 mths back with a year 2000 318i . M43 engine.

So far rebuilt the long shaft by changing the spider coupling , replaced the CSB , replaced the rear axel , duplicating a new key fob, upgrading to e90 staggered rim/tyres [ 215/45/17x8jj & 245/45/17x8.5jj ]

My biggest setback so far was the damn ignition switch which becomes faulty with resulted not able to start my car right after the cloning of the codes from the EWS & the keyman not able to find the fault. Finally a good Wireman was able to kautim the fault by repairing the ignition switch.

One month before that, an "oversmart" wireman told me that my Alternator was not giving out the proper charge needed & resulted to my car losing power & eventually stalled , I replaced a recond. Valeo Alternator but the problem still persist & now I suspected the culprit should be the Ignition Switch that did not supply enough electricity to my system [ ASC , ABS & Brake indicators all light up when it happened ] But so far after that IS was repaired, so far so good till now, touch wood............

However whenever it rains heavily, water seeps into my rear seats via the rear door, anyone encounter this b4 ? I suspected the rear doors need to be adjusted to close the minor gap.

Hi digilife,

Great to know that there are still e46 enthusiast on the road..sorry to hear about the ignition issue, thank god my car came with 2 sets of keys and after hearing bout this, think gona drop my idea to duplicate another key set...

For the water leakeage issue, u might want to change the door seals n see. I dun think u can get oem ones but can check with those ketuk kereta guys to change for u to universal seals.

No, pls, dun get me wrong, if that IS want to rosak it will bound to happen. Just go ahead to duplicate another key fob if you need to, infact we can only have a total of 10 keys that the EWS will recognise, my car already have 6 slots taken up as I now have 1 spare key [ wallet key ] + 3 keys with fob. Of these 3 key fob, 2 can only start the car but the remote controller to open/lock the car doors dun work, maybe the rechargeable battery inside is kong. Only the china key can open/close doors & start the cat after I buy a chip [ rm100 inclusive of cloning ] from the keyman. Price to duplicate a new key fob complete all in is rm380.

I actually bought a china key [ 315mhz ] for abt rm39 & asked the keyman to cut & copy my EWS but the damn chip [ that came with the rm39 key dun work sometimes ]

My regular Mudguard man told me by adjusting the door should be the first step to settle the water leakage issue, might drive over to see him this Thu if time permits.

Might just get a spare wallet key, just incase of emergency. Btw, can anybody guide me on how to enable a honk sound when lock/unlock my e46? Its quite difficult to check the car is locked when at some distance..my other car forte is also silent remote but at least the hazard signal flashes for me to confirm whether its locked.

And, is my side mirrors are motor driven? Bcos i can't push it manually. And if it is motor driven i can't find any button to retract it.. hope someone can enlighten me. Thx

Your side mirror is standard. You can manually fold it in if you excert a bit more force.

Does your car comes with alarm system? If not, then you cannot enable the honk. Actually, it does not honk but beep.

To check whether you have alarm, just lock the door via FOB. Open the door manually with the door key. If got alarm, it will
trigger the alarm.

You need to get the Scanner 1.40 to recode it to activate the beeper.

The beeper is in the firewall under the air filter. See below.

Will check with a bmw specialist next week here in alma, and update the outcome.. btw for the scanner, will it work on laptop with windows 7 or 8.

Yes, I was the first one to get it working and running on Win 7 and 8.
You just need to update the USB driver from the chip manufacturer.

Wallet key comes with the chip embeded inside, the best you can get is a clone key with the fob which is not suitable to be kept in the wallet .

I read somewhere if you take out the ori radio, you wont be able to start the car , not true ?
No, it is not true. I have seen more than 10 cars, like E46, E39 and M3 done with the retrofit.
All can start the car.
It is plug and play. The Multi Function of the steering still work as well.

For E46, you may have to shift the AC controller down one step.
For E39, most people shift the multifunction module to the glove compartment.

Or we need to look for those that are plug & play & compatible with E46 or that just any LCD player will fit ?

Some newer ones are actually made like an android tablet whereby you get most tablet functions & some smart guy mod a ipad mini into their E46 too, haha, that ipad mini can be taken out when you leave the car too

Jarance,

My car doesn't come with alarm system i have tested. So, without the alarm system, i can't get the car to beep. I have seen other forumers have installed oem m3 alarm on their e46. Have to do more researches on that, i dont plan to install aftermarket alarms bcos i want to preserve the originality of the car..
