Hi all, apologies if this topic has been covered before. Tried to search for it with no result.

My boss has an F02 that has an unpleasant interior smell. It is at its worst when you open the car doors in the morning. After running the engine and the A/C for a while with the windows down, the smell reduces but does not completely go away.

Workshop (German Motors) has confirmed that it has nothing to with A/C system (filters etc). In addition, we've been told that this is a common problem for F02, Q7 first gen, W221 etc. You cannot completely get rid of the smell, but you can mask it with air fresheners etc. Even if you get rid of it, it will definitely come back after few weeks or months.

Anyone faced this before? If so, how did you solve it, if at all?

have you tried the old school method of using charcoal? Place a few charcoal on the 4 floor mats including in the boot. Lock up the car with all windows up over the weekend. Then report back if it works.
