Bro Bryan Tan BMW F10 Hengst PM2.5 Activated Carbon Cabin Filter Change (Before Pic) - Old filter clogged up and unchanged for quite a while and to make things worse, its installed facing the wrong direction. The finer filter media would be clogged up in no time, leading to reduced aircon flow, buildup of dirt and moisture, ie breeding of bacteria and foul smell. So besides getting a good cabin filter, make sure the installer knows how to install it.
Earlier this evening, Bro Edmund came back to us for our Hengst Cabin filter replacement. He had installed it earlier with us in Jan 2017 and it would lasted a year or more if his workshop had not taken the "initiative" to replace it without asking him. So within a week of installing his new cabin filter, Bro Edmund found the air to be very stale. So when we took it out, guess what we found? Some funny brand (most likely prc) cabin filter, with no direction indication (there is a direction where the filter should be facing so that the airflow go through the proper sequence for filter media), plus the filter media was thick like a coat looking the same on both sides. Technically, the filter media materials are layered so it should look differently on both sides. In short, the material was effectively useless, blocking the airflow and without much filtering capability. Like we always practice here at Bimshop, quality is of utmost importance. Our products may be slighty pricier but you are getting what you paid for. As for the case of Bro Edmund, he paid $70 for a useless China one and had to come to us for our German made Hengst ones which would have cost another $20 more and with the end year promo now, its only $10 more at $80.

The recommended change by the manufacturer is 365 days or 15,000km whichever comes earlier. For the sake of your health and your family’s, do try not to stretch it more than 1 yr + 1,2 months. This is how much pollutants it has filtered. There comes a point where it can no longer serve its function as all the media is clogged up, you will experienced reduced aircon flow, foul smell cos of mold buildup due to trapped moisture, pollutants finding their way into your car through nooks n crannies. Breathe well for better health.
