Not every shop charge RM80 la.. I don't mind paying RM80 too.. I'm not surprise some charge RM200 for the job.

Both Suan Huat Sea Park PJ and any of the Bavarian Auto Parts alike.

    It's a long text file :4:

Fluids and sealers that are described in this Operating Fluids manual are BMW approved. Using non approved fluids or sealers can lead to premature failure and will not be covered under Warranty.

1.0 General Information On Automatic Transmission Fluids

Automatic Transmission Fluid was developed especially for automatic transmissions. It requires additives which arecarefully matched with each other, a high viscosity index and a solidification point below -40°F/-40°C.
Friction behavior of Automatic Transmission Fluid in plate-type clutches under very different operating conditions is extremely important. Other important factors are:
    — Wear protection
    — Oil film shear resistance
    — Adhesive property
    — Oxidation resistance
    — Corrosion inhibition
    — Sludge prevention
    — Temperature-dependent viscosity changes
    — Compatibility with sealing materials.

    2.0 Oil Additives
Automatic transmissions are designed so that oil additives are not necessary. BMW disapproves the use of any oil additives and cannot accept the liability for any consequential damage which results from using oil additives.

As per your documentation refer DEXRON III for E46 GM A5S360R / A5S390R Therefore DEXRON VI from Petron Canada is the compatible replacement? I may have to cancel my order RM200 for 6 litrs

I have no idea bro. Mine using ZF6 brown fluid while my Avanza using Toyota D-III, I just bought a 4L bottle from Toyota getting ready for my 200k km DIY full ATF flush, I'll pipe the old fluid out from the ATF cooler tube with engine running.. That's the plan.. :4:

sarawak-son, as I recall D-III is dexron 3 but Toyota adds slight variation of substance in it for their own formulation. That is why it is not called Dexron but D3. To be safe, get ori Dexron III or use Dexron VI like I am using for my GM5.

AB, btw I tot all new toyota incl avanza uses T-IV? how come still D-III? hmm...boleh kah?

Hehe... off topic but good for knowledge.. Toyota D-III is for those without hill decent control fuzzy logic transmission. To run hill decent system, the ATF has to be more liquid while the D-III is thicker. I have Avanza friend use T-IV in their old Avanza but suffer slippage because the ATF not "pekat" enough. My Avanza been using D-III since the warranty days when service done by Sec19 UMWT service center.. so I die die swear by it and still return to SC to buy my ATF. Outside spare part shop already stop carrying this D-III ATF, only T-IV and I refuse to budge.. degil ma.. haha! :4:

My 7 year old Avanza, almost 200k km, still in good condition and often push beyond the on-paper speed limit.. :4:

Now I have problem understanding the ATF change procedure..

I DIY my ZF 6HP19 ATF change with ZF6 fluid. I do not know how much is enough.. different people give me different advice.

    1. I fill ATF until overflow.
    2. I start engine, run through the gears, 3 sec each to circulate the ATF and wait few minute for temperature to build up.
    3. Top up until overflow.. (which I fail because run out of ATF!! I pumped more than 5 litre in...)

When I stop engine, ATF gush out.. I quickly jack up the car, crawl in and close the fill plug.

I read that ATF top up must be done with engine running, some say must stop the engine after it hit 40 Celsius and never exceed 50, then measure ATF level. Some say must engage 'N'.. how la? Which is which? I top up 1L this morning... still no overflow, with engine running, oil heated up, but in 'P'.

    Okay ka?

Car's gearbox is now filled 7.5 liters of Petro Canada Dexron VI for 3 weeks now. Its still as smooth as before not change in FC too but initially there sign of shift brake (means the gear stick for a second before it change) however all all adaptation are cleared with INPA its smoother now. No fault code but plan to flush for another session next month to properly clear the old DIII

    Thanks

great!...but don't wait too long to change. coz mixing isn't a good thing in the long run, normally the rule of thumb is around 500kms will be sufficient, in our hot and humid weather should be even shorter. I changed mine 1 week apart inclusive on a 2nd AT Filter change. G/B is as smooth as a babys bottom now ;)

refer your car on realoem to check which GB is installed. But as general rule n42/n46 comes with GM while M54s come with ZF. hope this helps :)

Dont forget to share the outcome and the cost too bro! I'm planning to do it for my n42 as well, currently learning from those who have done it.

    hi

Im a newbie here, I've just own a e46 320d 4d saloon 2002 model and Im skeptical with the lifetime oil on the transmission, so I've decided to change the oil and with a new set of transmission filter and Im using the Conoco Dexron VI to replace the existing oil. Till now it running much better, smooth gear change and also reduce my fuel consumption.

Since i couldn't find back the previous ATF type i used before to change on my gearbox.

So i need sifus here to assist on the right ATF to be use on my GM Gearbox - A5S 360R.

    According to the chart my gearbox was fall on the red circle as chart below;

The right ATF shown from this chart was Texaco ETL 7045 and BMW parts number was 83220026922.
My problem was i can't find this brand/type of ATF here in KK.

There was a BMW spare parts shop here introduce me ATF ZF 5 with parts number AA00 604 146 and
    he was telling me those bmw with 5 speed auto gearbox can use this ZF 5 ATF as pic below;

Since our gearbox are very sensitive and must use the right ATF, so i'm worry using the wrong type of ATF will
damage the gearbox and my pocket too :102:

Did any members here using this ATF ZF 5 with parts number AA00 604 146 to their GM Gearbox - A5S 360R before
and don't mind to share some experience please.

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers..
