Herbert I am interested to know which ride you are driving as you seems like very familiar with stuff here..in future will like to ask you if encounter any problem..that's why asking do we have the similar ride..

Kind of my interest spending my spare time at BMW specialist workshops learning various types of faults/symptoms and repairs/rectifications.  My current rides are e39 525i and e60 530i.

I got an error for my 3rd gear during diagnosis. The workshop cleared it for me and I can still feel it. Should i overheaul the GB or get a recond? I own an N42 btw.

First detected problem - i cant go uphill.

First thing check ATF oil level, then change ATF, filter. Then solenoid valve for the GB.

If dont work, overhaul (better but longer) or change 2nd (faster but slight risk)

Service also the valvebody to remove any sludge particularly on those solenoids as these also cause those symptom. A friend last time got issue when reversing and he replaced with a used valvebody since then his car running perfectly.

Hi bro Jarance, can recommend any workshop that is willing to change the solenoid valve for the gearbox?

My GB start to have symptom of failure, but my regular workshop only recommend me to straightly overhaul it.

I wish to start with the simplest repair first before go to the last option.

Thanks.

Ask the mechanic what needs to be changed bro. Overhaul is a big word, perhaps repairs/changing some parts might solve the issue. Run thru from page one and u might b asking more question to the mech. good luck!
