As the title goes, there's a layer of thin skin peeling off my steering wheel at 2 different spots. One is at the 3 o'clock stick, just at the base and the other at the 9 o'clock, at the top. Right now I can see some shiny plastic below this skin. Probably around 2cm long each. Anyone else seen this before ?Mine is an E90, got it in May 2008, pre owned Dec 2006.

Oh man! When I first saw this post I was expecting an older car but on an E90?? The one on my E46 was immaculate for 5 years plus and I always thought the leather on steering is of better quality than other parts!

Thats what I thought. For a quarter million ringgit car, I do not expect this kinda shoddy quality. I can see a thin black skin peeling off. I never put my hand there when driving anyway, so I doubt my ring would have caused that...this not what I expected when getting a bimmer.....crap!

the door handles, driver folding box, the center console will peel off too!! observe these spots they will peel off if you rub against it regularly...cox they are coated with a thin layer of the paint.

black interior perhaps get away with it as you hardly notice them!

i have change my front and rear passenger door handle (known as 'clasp' as in realoem.com) in 2 years ownership. and i seldom pickup passengers!

as for the driver door handle (dirty hand frequent area), i have cleaned the area several times and notice its gonna get worst if not taken care of.
so i have 3M cleared bra on it to prevent peeling.

another part is the 'driver folding box' near your right knee, it has several chips on it and i can see the white plastic base color (my interior is gray color)!
so i have bought a spare 'folding box' which cost RM270/= . i might send it for clear bra b4 i put it on.

as for the center console, look out for the place near the safety belt latch/buckle, most likely it will peel off....

overall, i am not satisfy with material used on the interior finish of the E90. Low class!

I have the same problem with the driver door handle too, and I was told that it's caused by sweaty hand, of which I think is really doubtful as the car is mainly used by my wife to pick up kids, marketing etc. I had the same problem with my previous yr 1999 E39 at the central console handle, I would have thought that BMW should have resolved this defect after so many years.

I am sending the car in to Ingress Auto tomorrow for replacement under warranty claim. So I suggest you do the same before your car's warranty expires.

I've changed the rear center console paint peeling bits from AB warranty claims. Even the steering wheel plastic cover is prone to peeling. Can get it replaced under warranty.

Well, Im planning to get it replaced under warranty. Im surprised to see all this similar problems faced by you guys. This not what to be expected from a bimmer. Yeah, sure they can tell to get it replaced under warranty....but this is not supposed to happen at all....if I wanted a car which I need to keep going to get parts replaced...I'll get a proton (even they are improving)....but never a bimmer man! What a bummer!

I have the driver side inner door handle & rear console panel replaced by Ingress 2 months ago, under warranty. Same effects as you guys, paint peeling.....
My interior is gray as it is very obvious when the paint peels.

Months earlier I reported these issues with Sapura, the feed back was it is due to sweaty fingers for the door handle and hard rubbing /cleaning on the rear console that causes the paint to peel. So they (Sapura) didn't allowed any warranty claims. Was very pissed off with them.

Glad that Ingress assisted me for the warranty claims. They took some pictures and wrote an email to BMW M'sia. Subsequently they called me a few days later that the new sets have arrived and got them replaced.

Guys, go to Ingress to resolve your issues.

Bros, I fully agree 200%!:top:

Ingress resolved my brake sensor issue, despite sending it twice to Sapura, all they did was to reset the meter and hoping the brake sensor error message will not pop up. Ingress changed all 4 sensors and it's all under BSRI.

Why is it so difficult for Sapura or even AB to change the stuff and claim under BSRI?

So, even though I got the car from AB, it should be no problem for me to claim a warranty replacement through Ingress? If thats the case, Im going straight to Ingress, not wasting any time with AB!

Bro, proceed to Ingress....don't even think about traveling to AB...

guys..why is it getting all too common ? now that u mentioned it, my 325 steering wheel thin skin layer is also peeling off at several locations...as far as i remember i do not have itchy fingers..haha.

do u guys get it replaced under warranty by AB ?

Must be the 1 carat diamond ring or Swarovski studded manicure accidentally cut the steering.. wah! can claim also ah? :p

I guess accidental cut and "peeling" should be quite easy to differentiate..

How many mileage on those car that has such "peeling" steering problem?

OK. You got my attention but I got no idea which part you're talking about. Lunch next week and you can show me?

take photo and upload easier ma. Set on micro setting to zoom in the shot. I hope the peeling doesn't look like my Petaling Street leather belt..

My 2007 E90 8 months old 320i 11k km lio, also no peeling. I left check right check today.. but covered car park and car seldom see the sun one.. :D

Farnee.... expose to excessive heat? use el-cheapo dash polish on the steering? Who wash your car for u?

U using V-Kool? which helps blocking the harmful UV or IR ray... our car has delicate skin..

so far, my car clocking 16k km, no sign of peeling. however of the black interior, there are some white patches @ the leather. (side of door)
