:yahoo: This is just an advice my xpreance I have gone through, I had an e30/m40 318i 1990 and my gearbox was spoilt by the boys at w/shop when I change the seals from a little leak to 1 ltr gear oil to fill every week and I go to another w/shop and they spoil more trying to dismentle the housing they knock I feel like crying at last they say I need to change my gearbox where actual fact that my gears was in good condition except leaks, so to cut the story short get a second hand one just lucky someone change to 320 whole set so I paid with not a cent of discount RM1200 where a 320 unit cost around 6 to 700 as many around.
Was unlucky use about a month the gears start making a rough sound till I dare not drive far as its so bad and some of the bearing is gone, this is the case of former owner never bother to change the oil.
Not to waste time my advice is don't change the gearbox go for overhaul will be cheaper. I did mine when mine spoilt from buying 2nd hand strip all and a good mech can tell you what is out to change and go for the parts and if I am not wrong i spend not more then RM1200 and my mech told me that is his 1st time he strip a Bimmer gearbox but I trusted him looking at how he deals with his neat work and my gear was perfect till today I think its 2 years now. sayang I left my old gearbox at the old w/shop as I feel all the parts is still ok but it was in dirty condition that I told them will collect later and now they have move, well its gone with the wind. up to you to decide its just my advice. if I am not wrong parts cost around 6 to 700 only. good luck.
