First of all I would like to say hi to all e60 owner, my name is Nicolas and just join in the forum.1- I am looking for E60 and have viewed a few 520i but mostly are silver color. I m interested in black, hope can find. If you or any of your friend wanted to upgrade the E60 may be can recommend to me.2. I also went to naza and the sales people told me better to buy 525 instead of 520 (under power) is that true? or they just want to push 525 bcos they dont have 520...I need some advice from expert (E60-owner) U guys will be the best to get advice from.Thank n hope to hear from U guys.

Yup, they are not lying. 520 definitely under powered compared to 525. For that matter 525 also under powered compared to 530. And 530 under powered compared to 540.... and so on... :)

So really depends on your driving style and what you want out of the 520. If just a comfortable drive, then 520 is enough. Just don't expect to win any traffic light fights or overtake pesky lorries (or even souped up Kancils!) with a flick of your right toe. But note there are 2 types of 520. One is the 6 cylinder 2.2l engine while the latest version in Singapore is the 4 cylinder 2.0l version (as in the E90). Best to get a 6-potter.

For me, I stopped at the 530.... i.e. that's enough power for me thank you very much :)

at least get a 525i la..even if u're not powercrazed, the 520i will seem a tad lethargic to the point that it gets annoying and in some instances a wee bit dangerous.u do need a semblance of accelleration to get out of trouble, its called active safety.

i have a 525i,and combined with the superb 6speed auto,the car has adequate 'up-and-go' qualities.in fact,it'll give an e46 325i a good run too.

if u are the type that likes a bit of ooommpphhh, than u'll need at least a 530i.

y didnt say hi and greet the rest? only hi to E60 members?

I bought the 525 Magnesium engine version... now I wished I bought the 530 instead.

Naza's pushing the 525 line because they have ALOT of them stocked up from Japan. It's a bigger market and more affordable to Msians i.e. newer reconds, cheaper road tax and 300k price tag.

If I'm not mistaken, there's no such thing as a 520 recond since UK and Japan don't import them.

i'm quite happy with my 525i m54..the reason i avoided the new n52 engined version is because i plan to do mods on the engine..more options are available for the m54.i avoided the 530i cuz it'll put me in a zone where i'll spend a rm30-40k price premium over my 525i and still have not enough ooomphh from the engine.that price difference will enable me more tuning options later.

Go for the 525. Even better, go for the 525 M-sport. I'm not familiar with the price difference as I haven't been shopping for cars for a while, but the accessories the M-sport has (M-steering wheel, sports seats, M-tech bodykit, sports suspension, etc.) over the regular 525i are well worth the money.

The 520 is definitely under-power. My test drive experience with the 520 is one of nothing but frustration. Hence I went for the 525i.

- Firstly Thanks for all the inputs n advice, really appreciate it.
- Secondly, sorry for that Mouse, its my fault, so I hereby greets to all BMW Owner and sorry for the previous greetings. Its is great to be in this forum n know U all.
- I am not really going for the torque or the oooomph, just want to own BMW5 series bcos it is Damn Good Looking car. But after reading some of the past post and hearing all of your inputs n advice I think it is better to get 525..

- I need this advice n inputs from U all.

1. is it advisable to get the 525 E60 from Naza? or Is there other better choice/place? U know, salesman is always a salesman, nothing against salesman, they just want to sell, fine with me but they do not own BMW themself n it is better to get advice from the real n true owner like you all, rite...

2. about the 2nd hand vs recond, I dont mind the 2nd hand but the Loan interest rate for 2nd hand is at 3.5% vs Recond 2.5%. But nevertheless, if U have friends wan2 sell their 2nd hand and U know them better that they really take care of the car n may b have some face lift, I dont mind. Pls do let me know.

3. Which one is bettere - Japan Spec or UK Spec.

Lastly, I want to thank Alxy, Supergripen, Steven7, Mouse, Amax, Owen, Oposite_lock for your kind inputs, looking 4ward to get 1 ASAP n join U guys.
Thanks once again.

Hi Nicholas,

1) just make sure the car is not accident
2) send to mechanics (which doesn't knows the seller) for check up.
3) mileage are mostly frauds, do not believe 'em.

this is just my personal advice; as i've also purchased a recond unit; I have spent till date almost 20k to change the worn down parts; i.e. lower arm bars, absorber, spring, active steering (which costs almost 7k!), thermostat, fuel pump...etc.

and make sure if the seller going to grant you 1 month warranty or so and you may fix your cars within the 1 month, DON"T DO IT! make sure once you have find the mechanics to do the job, ask the seller to let him to fix up the entire thing and bill to the seller.

if not, don't...

my seller promise this and that, end up when the bill send to him after I have collected the car, he ignores it.

hope u have a better plan till then,

Cheers!

bro lancelot, how do u know tat ur active steering is worn out? is it there is a very very small sound "tick tick tick tick tick"come out from the steering when u move around? between....wat exactly active steering for? between, my E60 525 also japan recond. to date...i had spent RM11k on car fully inspection as i doubt the car odometer which showing a record of 13,5000km for milleage since its register at year 2005. i have another RM9k to spend as what my mechanic told me.
also, how do you know that your lower arm bars, absorber, spring also need to be changed? soli as im technically idiot on car. share wit me though. thx

exactly.. there are many unscrupulous characters out there selling cars.especially cars like the e60,u'd wanna be very very careful cuz the costs of parts and repairs can be quite high.
once u take over the car's ownership, regardless of promised warranty periods etc, there are some out there who'll ignore ur every claim even if things go wrong within the 'warranty period'.
my advice is,before u take over ownership, have the car thoroughly checked out, have every even minutely dodgy parts replaced by the seller.pay particular attention to ignition coils, alternator n suspension bushings n parts.hell, have the wiperblades changed as well cuz i bet the car will have been standing in the sun for a period of time.

bought my car at TOYOKAR..after a few months of motoring the alternator gave way, draining the battery and after a thorough check, the ignition coils were gone as well..went to claim and was duly ignored totally by TOYOKAR.in the end,i had to foot the bills myself..'warranty' my ass..

once again,be very very wary of 'warranties'..

my advice is to buy only from the dealer that let you test drive the car and when you do, drive it hard and go above 110kmh. you will have higher chances of noticing any problems if any. during times like this i'm sure many dealers will let u test drive their cars. recently my dealer drove an impreza s204 from pj to kajang just for me to test...one word...SYOK!
