Got rip-off by Brother Peter

My E39 was having a current leak and I was suspecting the entertainment system. I went to Optimum, Ah fu say they don't do these kind of diagnosis.So I was driving along Damansara Uptown, saw Brother Peter. Went in at 1pm, told him my car got current leak, suspect it's the entertainment system.He say no problem, they can diagnose. I went for a walk, got back to the shop at 3pm, a technician just started diagnose, he connected a light bulb to the battery. I asked him to start with the entertainment system first. Sure it is, there was a leak on the amplifier. His light bulb goes from a full bright light to a dimmer flashing light when he disconnect the amplifier. He say the light should be OFF, there are still other parts leaking. So he started to dismantle everything including the electronic board in front of the engine bay. My whole car was wripped open, and the light bulb is still showing flashing dim light.So I was a bit worry, and told him to stop. Ask him to just dismantle entertainment system for me. that was 4pm. But he told me for sure there is another leak. So he continue to dismantle all the electrical parts of the car. Until 7:30pm, when he dismantle the alarm system, the light was OFF. I say, the Alarm system may be normal to have some current, he agrees and put back all the car parts, lucklily he managed to install back everything with no problem.Then comes to paying time. Peter charged me RM450 for the labor. He say if I bring in to Auto Bavaria, they will charge me RM10,000 and it will be a few days of diagnosis. I told him it's bull shit, pay him the RM450 and walk away. His shop was empty the whole day, maybe we charge me labor for all his idle stuffs. Damn!

Is this the outlet which is the corner lot opposite Pappa Rich?

I always thought there were loads of recon Alphards at that shop undergoing some work. They probably belong to LX Mode since these cars have no plates fitted.

Anyways, sorry to hear about your predicament. RM450 does seem steep. That's the bad thing about leaving our cars with those whom we are not familiar with.

alternative there is CV Audio....

I would have gone to KF Audio or ACP at SS2

i do hate profiteers. when they see a bimmer pull in to their shops, they hear "kaching kaching" sounds, and see dollar signs in front of their eyes.

one thing for us all to remember - it's always prudent to ask for a quotation prior to letting anyone touch our cars.

Why u suspect the entertainment system? What u have done to the ICE? If so why not going back to the shop that u did before?

Yeah I do notice the difference between BMW and other cars, when they see your BMW, automatically the charges will be higher.

I own a civic and E39, the labor cost of both are a huge difference eventhough the time the mech spend to fix the car is same. Unbelievable.

No, they just confirmed my suspect, but with way too much time spent and way too high cost for me.

Why u suspect the entertainment system? What u have done to the ICE? If so why not going back to the shop that u did before?

This is a original ICE, it comes with the car when I bought it. It's always hang, so this is my first suspect.

Bro, u meant the current leak in MID? Try to borrow the MID and swap it in to confirm?

i am sure the leak is not from the MID, it should be the amplifire which is located upper from our MID. ( If the car still at original player)

CV Audio is the same row as Brother Peter, just down the road....few shops away from GC Motorsport I think

I'm not an expert in wiring....but stock ICE shouldn't have this issue unless your ground cable is exposed or not properly connected

I'm not sure how good are they. But they told me my problem cannot be fixed. Must replace new one.
