hello to all.firstly, i am sorry if this post not suitable to park here. if not, mod please transfer to new location.i just bought bmw e36. the previous owner just change the engine to 2.5cc single vanos.however, there are several problem.the fc really make me scared to drive that car. from kuala lumpur to seri manjung already rm200! believe it!the other problem is the engine idle. when i start the car in the morning, the idle was good. but after i drive a few kilometer, the idle was not accurate. if i switch on aircond, the idle was ok. the previous owner said, it just idle valve. just clean it and it will ok. is that true?last problem, the radiator got small hole at drain path so the temp sometimes will increase if i not topup the water. so is there a others ways to cover that hole or to change new radiator? if change new, how much it cost?thank you to all.hopefully can got the advise and answer from the expert.

bro, i drive my e36 325i from sri manjung to sepang klia minyak less than full tank. Full tank pun tak sampai rm200, if rm200 melampau sgt tu. try change your O2 sensor.

wah rm200 is like 2 full tank. i can go from manjung to klang and return on less than 3/4 tank. (380km) on my e46/325i lar..

check your fuel hoses under the passenger seat. it could be leaking.

unstable idling speed could be due to icv, afm and leaky vacuum hose.

bro UnoS and bro jarance, i drive that car from kajang since i bought that car from there. when the fuel got half tank, i topup it. so total almost rm200. my friend who co-pilot also shocked with the fc.

bro UnoS, where are you location? i can show you the car but in september la since the car still in penang. got minor problem about the radiator. already ask the shop and got 2nd radiator for rm300. new 1 is rm600. still dilemma which 1 to take.

if you're in penang you may contact unstopable for checking or perhaps giving you some notes about ya car ...

ya bought the car for used car in kajang ? or direct owner ?

i bought it direct owner but the car left in workshop for final touch-up like audio, sunroof and others. owner live in cheras. so i take car for there, fill the fuel rm50 and then go to putrajaya. before get out from putrajaya, the fuel almost empty. fill again rm50 then drive back to seri manjung. topup again at tanjung karang rm100 untill reach home. below 1 bar the fuel left.

can i take out the thermostat?
btw, how to upload the pic in here?

the owner claim that the 1st owner change the engine to 2.5 single vanos. but what i see here, the radiator is not same. it dont have the cover for that. is that normal?
hopefully the expert can help me with this engine. got minor problem as i mention before, radiator leak, engine idle not accurate, fc higher, power steering hose leak, and others minor problem. looks like got to do it slowly but need advise from the expert about the engine.

Hmm interesting. not too sure but perhaps some seniors can advice. i think perhaps that radiator might be from lhd models coz the water filler is on the right side instead of left side. by right should have cover also. you need to check on that

owner claim that cover cannot fit since already change the engine+ radiator fan. so i must bought new cover but radiator got minor hole so better for me to change the radiator then buy the new cover. but i not sure got to buy which one because looks like the water filler need to be at right side.

is that engine real single vanos? how to check that?

Single Vanos can be identify by the oil cap. It is located at the inner part of the engine top.
A sure way is to scan the car with a diagnostic tool to check the ECU information.

yes, it look your radiator is missing the fan shroud.

My advise is check with the previous owner where he did his conversion.

I know some workshop would not touch a car if it not stock because of the conversion.

the engine looks from an e34 m50 obd1 series as the MAF sensor has got a box type unit ...unlike the e36 obd1 type

it looks like your's in a converted from the 1.8 model to the 2.5 e34 obd1 series engine ..

the 4 potter radiator reservior in on ya right had ( same as your picture shown ) unlike the later model ...

and as for your high fuel consumption ...as mentioned in some of your post that the car is converted from a 2.0 ( not sure 4 potter or 6 potter japan spec ) wondering if the ECU , Fuel pump or even the gearbox model is the same or not ...

i think like that. its from 1.8 to 2.5 but how come that happen? jpj not approve engine conversion more than 30% right.
but the owner claim from 2.0 to 2.5.
manual aircond, only driver and co pilot power windows.
