First order of business: dissect gauge cluster, repair dead odometer and replace the SI batteries.

Odometer gears did not mesh because the mechanism which is held in place by a peg broke its bracket. BMW plastics kinda get brittle after 20 years or so. Solution: Selleys epoxy cement. It's kinda like clay/plaster. Superglue back the bracket and re-inforce by building it up with cement.

SI batteries were a pain to get to. Buried in the innermost recesses of the gauge cluster. The meters sit on their own PCB. The SI has its own sub-PCB under the main one. The batteries are soldered in and sealed with glue. BMW kindly used lithium batteries but even those dont last forever. Solution: De-solder the tabs from the bottom of the PCB and cut thru the glue. I wired a remote battery pack, so next time the batteries need changing, I ain't doing this shit again.

Nice car.. I am sure this babe is going to be perfect soon.. keep us posted..
Have you changed the Plug HT wire?

Nope, as you can see the plug cables still held in the distributor by some putty. DIY quick fix for now.

Redbaron: You mean the big bumpers on my car?
Mafia: i bought it off a certain Mr. Wong. He bought it from a used car dealer.

The gearshift boot is attached to a plastic frame. Just pry it out by hand.

The old PVC boot is glued in. Just rip it out, being careful not to damage the plastic.
