Everyone, I plan to get a new F10 very soon. I would prefer the diesel version but would like the experts opinion on its suitability. 1. The car will be driven mostly by my wife to nearby places from my home2. The car will only be started every 3-4 days depending.3. Will use the car for outstation trips (maybe once in 2-3 months) Will diesel engine be ok with such minimum use ? Or a petrol engine is more suited for this kind of sparse usage.

shahnaz,
First of all I would not even consider a new car for such a short low usage. Moreover a diesel which is meant to be driven long distances and cope with a hard life and can stand abuses.

Get a used car instead. A used 535i E60 would be my first choice. Alternatively go for a used E92 M3 spec if you can find one.

With the awesome torque, the 520d will be ideal for your wife in view of the frequent carjacking attempts these days. Step on the pedal and the criminals will be miles behind after ramming your car's rear.

Good advise but if really want a new car, get a petrol car. The diesel car is for high mileage user like me. Less than 3 months old but more than 14k km done. Not counting my use of other rides.

Not really OK for either type of engines for short trips and sporadic use but you can compensate by going to service more frequently like every 5,000km or every 3 months depending on usage. Your SA can advise you on this.

Personally I feel diesels are better because of fuel economy and ease of use in city and suburban driving conditions.

In the UK,the 520d makes up 90% of total5series sales-its a good car, its a no-brainer. wives hate fueling up-with the 5120d,she will only need to fill up the car every 1000kms! With the 523i, just shortly after filling up, the empty fuel tank warning light comes on again! So irritating, isn't it! Get smart, get a diesel! Even club secretary Yazmeen wants to get a diesel and club veteran Pussy wants to get a diesel car next! Even Malaysia's premier motoring journalist and internet blogger, Paul Tan, bought a 520d with his hard-earned money!

where can i find a 535i e60 in malaysia?

mudah? motor trader mags or similar will be my first port of call.

Another good alternative would be the E66.
Parked my F10 next to an E66 730li last night and the verdict is, A seven series will always be a Seven series.
F10 with it new curvatures and striking interior still no match for an imposing 7 series

Couldn't agree more. I was seriously contemplating E66 but wifey prefers a brand new car. I cannot afford a new F01, so F10 is the way to go. No regrets so far.
