there is a knocking sound when its idling but better to use the MODICIII...it will show vanos failure, the repair kit is approx RM280 to RM350.....depends on the workshop.....

This engine has the second-highest specific output of any production naturally aspirated piston engine. The S54 won the International Engine of the Year award overall for 2001, and also claimed the "Best New Engine" that year as well as winning the 3-4 L category for four straight years from 2001 through 2004. The S54 was also on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2002 through 2004.The S54 is also known as the Engine of Damocles because of the tendency of early production M3s to explode spectacularly at elevated engine speeds as a result of oiling issues. BMW attempted to blame vehicle owners for the failures early on but eventually started replacing rod bearings, oil pumps, and whole engines under warranty.
    Applications:
    2001-2006 E46 M3

I want to find out if there is any forummers who have changed the vanos seal (i.e. from the BUna type to Vitron type). Questions:
    1. Is the vanos seal kit (of Vitron type) available in KL. If yes, where & roughly how much
    2. How much did it cost (i.e. labour cost) to change the vanos seal
    3. Which recommended workshop with the experience
    4. What's the experience after the change of the seals.

    Thanks alot.

    Euro

I always wondered why my car behaves like this....when car changes to 4th gear at 90km/h, and revs go up to around 2500rpm and when I maintain speed at 90km/h, I feel something like a gear change and revs drop even lower to around 2200rpm. Is this the VANOS at work?

I had an EG6 B18c which has more fun factor compared to H22A and I never regretted turning bimmer. Its a different class to compare. Nevertheless, the VTEC has a special place in my heart..hehe

yeah, i had to choose, let go of my vtec to get the bimmer or not...within hours, i made d decision. i prefer 6 potters. and that classic looking e30, which i remember from my childhood days. Now i will slowly look for a nice 330. a few brothers have messaged me. lets see.

B18C sreams the loudest, amongst all engine vtec engines. One of the best. H22A is heavier, but more torque. and EG6 is fun. Hey, you use a m52b28. what stuffs you bikin?
